i have looked and measured out my frame size and it is as i suspected--large--you do measure your wrist size or can do it manually by wrapping your thumb and fore finger around!--i weigh 182lbs--if there are 14lbs to a stone!(13stone) --a bmi of 27,1 but with a large frame i should be aiming to be between bmi 23,1 to 26,1--152lbs to 172lbs for my height---you add 10pc to the normal bmi for a large frame and decrease it 10pc for small--from the calculators
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.

unfortunately this is a very rough guide, as i said its about muscle mass and the only way to be sure is to get it calculated

a more accurate way (but still not perfect as it cant take into account internal visceral fat) is to use skin fold callipers

i think women prefer lean to over muscled for all those younger guys!!

I almost agree but toned/muscled arms are always appreciated!

Eric thanks for the Gerard Butler photo very nice.

I'm one of the disappearees from the chart as my scales are two hours away. Will reappear in two weeks.

Am waiting for the post but haven't a clue what time it arrives on a weekday - could have missed them

the calipers look a job for the pros! i will just have to rely on MRs de and myself to feel content with my shape--we measured our thighs recently and she has bigger thighs than me and she is 5ft 3 and about 9st something!-she used to play pro tennis and has venus williams' legs!!!
i think i will plonk for the middle of all the data-just to be average with room to expand!!

  • The time has come for me to lose weight. It was always going to happen, so had a wee health check at the local gym yesterday.
The guy recons my 22st 1 3/4 lb makes me overweight (bmi 39.6, body fat 36.3%). Blood pressures slightly high as is my heart rate.
It seems years of over eating and drinking way too much has finally caught up on me.
    So todays the day.
In the past I've tried gimmick and fad diets, this time I'm not. A total change in eating habits backed up with exercise.
My only "all in the head" stuff will be a Sea Kelp tablet every day and an occasional cup of green tea. Excercise will be the main way to boost my metabolism.
I''ve got a box of shredded wheat in the cupboard, thats breakfast till its finished.
Other changes will be no white bread/pasta/rice, no alcohol, no fizzy juice (diet or otherwise) and no crisps or sweets.
Apart from the above, anything sensible goes.

welcome :T:T:T to the nut house :j sounds like you have a great starting platform there.

there's some evidence to support the drinking of green tea and its health aspects, quite a high % of the population have an intolerance to it thou (my OH does)

certainly nothing wrong with eating natural carbs like rice, wheat can have intolerance problems for some people (me incl probably), I personally don't have any problems with no sugar fizzy drinks that contain sucralose, i get no addictive side affects from them although some do, i certainly avoid the ones with caffeine in.

walkers baked crisps are pretty healthy for a crisp, i actually prefer them to normal crisps and often have them instead of bread

my quick tips may be of interest to you

Welcome Scotsman--good luck with your transformation!
İ was just listening to radio 2 and it was talking about meditation being good for lowering bp and generally de stressing life and balancing things--depression etc--i did it for a few years back in my 20s and got out of the habit but i have re-introduced it back into my health regime and feel much better for it--i started last march so its not just in the mind'--i just meditated and it got me thinking clearly about when i was last happy with my shape and weight--i was 31 and 11stone--i cant get the hairline back but is 2 stone possible given the change in skeleton over the passing years??
İ was also thinking about last nights dinner--we had french beans and instead of meat my wife went turkish and put flavourless yoghurt on my plate--it was nice and filled me up--is it a way to go??-i just read the label--79,17 enerji per 100gr--i presume this is turkish for calories

Just saw that Scotsman mentioned Sea Kelp. Has anyone tried it ? Does it help? Any side effects? Also read about leucine, it apparently helps regulate blood sugars and helps get rid of fat. Again any views?
    I would if I could but I can't so I won't!

the only thing i have ever tried with any success was lecithin which i took as a cereal and was disgusting--it thins the blood and lets body fats somehow pass quicker-i have seen it in tablet form but was pricey-the Australians use it to cope with their western blood fats and the scorching heat down under--i took it as a part of a gym regime to burn fat and it worked--i was much younger though---it has jolted me to seek it out here in tablet form--health food and things are much cheaper thankfully but getting my wife to translate isnt easy--i dont speak any turkish!!
