3,500 calories to lose a pound!!!!!!! Oh my goodness. No wonder ive only ever lost a lb in my life!

yep its shocking, whats even more scary is that my target means I have to create a calorie deficiency of 700,000 calories in 12 months !!!!!!

    Thats

    1428 Big Macs - 4 a day
    3500 Bags of Crisps - 9.8 a day
    4046 Cream Eggs - 11.36 a day
    7777 Glasses of Wine - 21.85 a day

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

OMG that is not going to be easy at all ....

I have lost 262850 calories in 13 weeks so far

and I am ahead of target by 79415 calories, however this target is reducing at the moment as I am approaching the hard area why my size and weight means its hard for me to increase my exercise to a level where by I can maintain my goal, hopefully in the last 3-4 months I will be light and fit enough to start pushing much harder exercise wise.

on previous diets that have always done the trick--just the maintenance i let myself down on -its the saturated fat content i concentrated on--i cant get my head around calories!--i think i aimed at 11g of fat a day and did some vigourus exercise every other day--i either swam or went to the gym-i lost at a rate of 2lbs per week but tended to obsess with the scales!--because of all this sport in my life i do have quite a lot of muscle mass--but dont feel strong anymore!--i have a round face and when i hit my goal weight i looked very thin in the face and everyone was making negative comments!!-i will see what thias foreign gym can plan out for me--im off to hit the ball against the tennis wall today!!
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.

calories are just a unit of energy, like a watt for electrical equipment, a 60w bulb burns twice as much power per hour as a 30w bulb

counting calories is the easiest and most boring weight loss system, its just a case of making a list of everything you eat, what it weighs and how many calories it has, in the UK we are lucky now as just about all food is marked up (if its not you know its bad for you ;) ) I have a little program on my phone that makes it easy to do this.

so a typical dinner for me would be

    100% lean rump steak 297g - 422 cal
    light olive oil 10g - 88 cal
    potatoes 495g - 356 cal
    mushrooms 175g - 38 cal

    total for meal 904 cals

you just add up everything you eat and make sure it does not exceed you daily allowance for calories in my case 1750

a normal man should eat 2500 calories a day, they recommend that you reduce this to 2000 calories a day to start with which should give you 1 - 2 lb a week loss

i did mine by just looking at the contents of items as i shopped --i think a packet of crisps was about 6 to 8g and avoided them like the plague--the numbers on fat are smaller and easier to digest!!--i think the normal intake of fat is 13g a day and i set my target at 11g to loose weight--coupled with exercise!--i have never lost an ounce by dieting without exercise--i gave up beer in january and by logic i should have lost those calories but i havent lost weight --i am the same weight i was 2 years ago and i stopped exercise!

welcome de1amo; always good to have another bloke on board (cackling womin eric, cacklin women? Don't you mean stimulating intelectual female debate?:D)

Missy - the exercise I was taking about with delly was the resolve to get back to swimming and i have written it in my diary for every thurday afternoon. However events of this week show what a difficult balancing act it can be and I can't make tomorrow anyway as boiler man coming for 3rd attempt to fix niagra falls as it wends its way through bathroom floor to kitchen.

    :D:D:D

swimming is the 100% best form of exercise, total body work out good cardio with some strength training and very low impact on the joints :j

its certainly a good thing to avoid as much sat fat as you can

the only problem is some foods have no fat but lots and lots of refined sugar so you could eat your target sat fat and still put on weight from the refined sugar or just by eating to much

exercise unfortunately is critical in weight loss (and its important to carry on afterwards as well) it gets you healthy, its speeds up your metabolism (you burn more calories naturally) you burn calories whilst doing it but you also burn calories at a higher level whilst you recover from exercising. If you do strength training and put on muscle you will also burn more calories as muscle uses energy, if you add 10lbs of muscle to your body you will use about 500 extra calories a day.

The amazing Michael Phelps (8 gold medals for swimming in 2008) eats 12,000 calories a day!!!

i did a diet based on swimming as the exercise--i had to really swim fast and for prolonged periods --Laneing relentlessly--you have to be serious -a lot of pools dont cater for this and people interupt the flow and you can end up just floating about -i would swim for about an hour up and down--i hate crawl so it was fast breast stroke--and goggles to make the swim effective on the muscles

Hello peeps! Remember me (from a galaxy far far away)? Haven't been on for AGES and thought I'd say hello. Hope you are all doing well. Since I was on last I joined WW online (the freebie three month trial) and I've lost 1 stone 2lbs! Admittedly I've also upped the exercise too but at last I've found something I can stick to. Oh well still 2 stone to go.......
    I would if I could but I can't so I won't!

thats certainly an excellent way to exercise

the problem i have is not only people getting in your way but that UK pools have huge amounts of chlorine in which makes me eczema go into a frenzy :(

that and when ever i get out of a pool green peace throw me back in :rotfl:
