Thanks for the info on the showers:D ours packed up and needs either a spare part or replacing and seen as we know nothing about showers we thought we would replace for the price of a spare but then read it had to be electrician and the cost gets further away from us:D off to Homebase to have a look later after work, slept about 10 mins last night so feel exhausted, all I need now is awkward customers all morning:rotfl:

Yes I have been on a few sites and worked out that at my height and weight I use about 1700 a day (I walk to work but apart from that spend the day v sedentary sitting at a desk!) so aiming for a deficit of 400-500 (1lb a week) I think 1260 should be about right.

Katmad - I hope it works for you but that's approx a 23-29% deficit which is quite high and well above the '15% rule' so keep an eye on it and make sure after the first few weeks you're not losing muscle rather than fat or struggling to lose the 1lb/week :). Generally calorie reduction of more than 15% of maintenance is what leads to metabolic slowdown and muscle loss, which as we all know makes fat loss much harder.

I'm speaking from experience - when I started maintaining I was doing so on approx 1200-1300 cals/day and my weight stayed the same for 6 months. I eventually managed to up it to around 1700-1800/day and still stayed the same! I know which I prefer ;) :rotfl:

    p.s. I'm a spreadsheet nerd too :p

Blimey! I go away for a day and look what happens - lots of newbies () and chat!!

We have a gorgeous weekend (weather-wise) in prospect so today I'm getting out & about in the garden; the lawn is in desperate need of a haircut and I have a new garden arbour+bench to put up (bought off ebay with my birthday money :D) as well as a new spike for my rotary washing line and some serious trimming of the borders. Plenty of fresh air today, which I will need to stock up on as I need to write another OU essay this weekend, so I will do that tomorrow. (as well as all the usual weekend chores). I'll sleep next week. :p This essay wont be so easy-going as the last since, as of now, I dont have much of a clue as to what I'm going to write

Eric - I accept your challenge of you posting new GB-quality eye candy if I lose 2lb in a week. Start downloading the photos NOW!! (Though I think you're safe this week as another long business trip yesterday saw me breaking my own diet rules left, right & centre. MUST get organised!).

I must be getting old I am so knackered from this mornings shed/garden/cleaning bed making I need a siesta:rotfl:

No, when you get old you just take off your specs and you can't see the shed/garden/cleaning/bed that needs clearing, making or tidying.

I'm fine thanks beanie but still eating for England. If it stays still I'm eating it ....... :o .... I don't know why.

I agree Louise, the weather's gorge! :D I even put a bit of sun protection on my face before my run today, and did my first gloveless cycling of the year! :D

My weight control method is 6 small meals per day, which I try to keep mainly healthy and balanced but I do enjoy some treats too! Also plenty of exercise (approx 10-12 hours per week usually).

Hope everyone else is making the most of the sunshine! :D

Granny, this isn't like you, this time last year you were one of the most focused peeps on here. I know a bit's gone back on but I hope you can find a way to at least start STS-ing for a while because I'd hate to see you undo all that good work. You still want that lovely coat you bought to fit next winter or that won't be very MSE and Martin won't be pleased! ;)

İ went to the gym last night for the 1st time--in earnest--shattered all my dellusions about my body shape and fitness level---i saw a full lenght mirror of myself with just a towel on and looked liked the michelin man not gerald butler!!--they took me through my fat burning program as a light intro and i feel like i have done a major marathon of circuit training this morning--i didnt even get a swim as i planned due to the weak feeling!-all in all i did 1hr10mins of exercise--most of which was plodding along at one speed on a cycle!!
i will go and swim today as my wife has to go through her program--heavens know how you build up a routine to getting back into the swim!!??--housework is the first stop--i think things like the gardening and housework are more natural than the gym for long term conditioning but first i have to loose the bulk of 14kgs! heavens the is 30lbs plus --at 2lbs a week that is 15 weeks or 3,5 months --july time--things are going to be tight for my summer holidays that start mid july!!---but i have started and feel motivated by the chat here and the advice people are imparting!--
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.

sounds like your gym are starting you off properly

you will be surprised how quickly fitness comes back to you if you stick to the program

At the start of the year I had problems getting up stairs I was massively out of breath, now I can go on the tread mill for 90 mins with my heart rate at 150-160 bpm

When I started strength training ( i do 3 sets of 10-15 reps with 9 different exercises only using free weights) my grand total was 550kgs, I am now doing the same exercise but the total weight lifted (ignoring the bars) is 5700kgs

a good system by adding the total weight load--they have me on 14 different machines for weights x2 --15 reps----i havent done any meaningful exercise in 7 years! including housework--a real computer potato!--i did some cardio work and my heart beat kept stopping the machine as it was hitting 180bpm--i took the message!--that was walking at 4kmh up a slight incline! i sure hope the fitness comes back soon as you say!--i was heartened to see the gyms cliental mostly looked equally as out of shape as me!! --i will steer clear of the free weights til i am 'better'.
