Victory thanks so much for your advice. I put a 20 min walk/jog into my new day plan today, since I had to pop to the shop anyway, so made it into a round trip - jogged/fast walked for about 1 mile plus got my grocery shopping done! What a beautfiul day it is today. felt lovely just being outside in the fresh air with the sun on my face. thanks for giving me the ideaBetty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

I have been looking into getting some supplements to help my weight loss along, or at least give it a kick start. I've always been very anti-supplements (my line is usually 'why would you pay to put something in your mouth that's supposed to stop you putting things into your mouth which you could do for free!??')
however, I do think I've probably got quite a slow metabolism and I could do with something to aid both digestion and metabolism. I have been reading about the benefits of green tea extract pills (a lot stronger than just drinking green tea, which would need to be copious amounts to get any results) which you can buy in capsule form to help speed up metabolism and burn fat.
there are also other fat burning capsules that have green tea in them as well as other things, like this one http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=2057&searchterm=capsaicin&rdcnt=1

Cue eric!!
I'm sure he's posted on here before about diet supplements, he is is a mine of information and would encourage just to eat healthily (i.e. no processed food, bad fats etc), exercise more and spend your money on something more worthwhile.
I do take supplements at the moment but nothing to do with weight loss; VitD & Calcium (because I'm menopausal + have a history of thyroid problems & therefore at risk of osteoperosis) and also at the moment I am taking arnica to help get rid of a nasty bruise on my arm (I walked into a door after one too many sherberts at the weekend!).£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

hezza very glad you feel better about your decision about your job:D
I have decided to give mine up, can't allow them to talk to me one moment longer the way they do so will have to bite my tongue until I find another one, hopefully during the day so it does not cause so much worry about who will take care of the youngest after school and no weekends, we will have to see if such a golden job like that exists in this credit crunch recession times:D pass or not pass the modules I am off, have more respect for me than the money and when I do go will ring head office and tell them how they have treated me:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Been to the diabetic clinic and lo and behold they have come up with another tactic , a carb free day, no insulin day  oh well tomorrow for me it is eggs, toms and mushrooms for breakfast, meat and veg for lunch (never had that before) same for dinner and sugar free jelly, no bread, yogs, crackers nada just as above to see if the long acting insulin that goes on behind the scenes is doing it's job correctly:D
Then more phone calls more emails more visits and more disruptions but hey always hope in the heart (again):rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
betty glad it helped, don't know why but the fresh air has a very healing effect on me and it really perks everything up.0 -

snake oil unless its a stimulant like amphetamines and you do not want to be taking anything that does that to you, laws of themo dynamics etc
99.9999% of fat people have very efficient and very fast metabolisms (hense my BMR is 3700 cals a day ..) you need a thyroid problem, prescribed drug side effect etc really to have a slow metabolic rate
best way to "speed" up your metabolism, eat 5 or 6 small meals over the day so they "system is always running" and do some exercise

and this is just utter bollacks, you can not target fat no matter what you try and i bet £100 that if you double blind test this stuff its the bit in bold thats actually causing the weight losswell you will loose weight with this wonder tablet, from your purse
if your having problems with digestion / acid, you should get checked out by a doc, there's probably and underlying cause like helicobacter

i hate to disappoint
there's nothing wrong with supplements per say if you have a restricted diet or a condition that warrants it like the menopause but it is always better to eat a balanced healthy diet
saying that I am dairy free because a big part of my weight problem was my cheese addiction and because on the whole dairy is massively energy dense and there's not much point having milk if your not eating carbs for breakfastso i take a calcium supplement

Thanks Eric - good point about the bit in bold, it's what i'v always thought. If you're going to have to diet and exercise to get results from a pill then why not just do it anyway and not bother with the pill??! Lol.
Off to the gym then, to lose weight naturally!!Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

BettyB I supplement with a multi vitamin 5 days a week, because my diet isn't always as good as it should be, and also Omega 3 fish oil (I get very little Omega 3 in my normal diet as I don't eat fish). So these ones are taken for general health.
For help with weight loss I tried L-Carnitine supplementation for a month a while back, this is supposed to rev up fat burning in active individuals, but I found it made no difference to me!0
