  • Yay Victory well done HSstars.gif

    Glad you showed them

BrightonBelle - agree with you on the clean sheets best thing when you feel under the weather is to change the sheets and suddenly you don't feel so bad.

Betty B- good luck with your plan

Missy - I felt shattered just reading what exercise you did last week :rotfl: I love ice skating but there isn't a decent rink near us. It burns a lot of calories too. Glad you enjoyed it

Lois - Enjoy your few days off I expect you deserve them

betty I don't exercise as gym etc but I find when I can walking a great mind/happy booster, all that fresh air, the other day had the huge hump kept crying etc got my jacket and went out for a walk and it made me feel million times better, don't know why or how but it just seemed to be the tonic I needed and would recommend being outdoors as much as possible as something to keep you going.

bb I am with you on the life passing you by thoughts, I get so frustrated on the bad days, over compensate on the good ones, like foolishly doing 7 hours worth of painting only to wake up the next morning literally unable to move, learn anything? No, never do either;)

Thank you for all the congrats:D

It certainly is decent exercise, the first time I measured heart rate when ice skating I was surprised, because it always feels so effortless! Same for inline skating, have you ever tried that? You don't need a rink for that as long as you can find some smooth tarmac tracks ;):D.

BettyB, as well as planning my exercise in advance I also keep a log of every exercise session I do. I find it great for keeping me motivated and seeing how much I've progressed. If someone had told me 2 years ago what I'd be doing now exercise-wise, I would honestly never have believed them...

Oh just realised I've got a set of inline skates gathering dust and there is a lovely newly tarmaced car park at work - will do for a practice rink. Will have to investigate if we have any smoothish promenade round here.

Well I had a bit of a heart-to-heart with OH last night and have decided that I'm going to look for another job. As a contractor its ok to say to prospective clients that the project that you were hired to work on has stalled, but the longer I leave it the harder it is to justify not doing anything about it and also having nothing to show for my tenure here. OH agreed (bit surprised about that, thought he would want me to sit tight and just keep bringing in the money) so today is the first day of the rest of my life!! :D and I'm feeling a bit better about myself. Just need some carefully crafted wording for my cv now....

I sometimes go to our local gym and tho I can usually get on a cardio (treadmill, cross trainner, bike or rowing) machines ok but the resistance machines are usually rammed with sweaty lads in singlets so I cant get any resistance work done. Usually I resort to doing a few press-ups at home while I'm waiting for my bath to run!! Also last time I was there someone nicked my towel (one of those nice micro-fibre ones) after I'd turned my back for about 10 seconds  I'm reluctant to cancel my membership cos I get free swims and aerobics classes with it, which I do make full and proper use of. In this weather I might as well go for for a long walk/short jog instead. Have taken up walking into town at lunchtimes (takes about 10 minutes) which usually results in me parting with ££'s too!

Hezza try ramping up the tension on the bike & cross trainer as much as you can manage (to maximum if you can), that's a great lower body resistance workout! How about a set of cheapie free weights for upper body at home? I got a cast iron combination set from Tesco. What a pain about your gym towel, blimey is nothing safe ?

Vixstar if you're anywhere near the home counties west of London I can recommend somewhere amazing to inline skate - it's where I did my skating marathon the other week. Let me know and I'll PM you.

I witnessed an accident last night :(. A driver opened a car door straight into a lady cycling on the pavement and she went flying. We helped and she seemed to be OK other than a cut on the leg but as I said on the exercise thread, I'm glad she didn't hit her head because she wasn't wearing a helmet.

What was she doing cycling on the pavement??? It drives me nuts when I see adults doing this cos they should be on the road and some of them whizz round like blimmin idiots, I'm surprised there aren't more accidents like this.

Thanks for the tip!:D I set myself time & distance targets on the rower and the wobblier I feel when I get off the harder I know I've worked!!

Absolutely she shouldn't have been cycling on the pavement, she knew that, but the driver also knew the careless way the door had been swung open would likely have knocked anyone flying, even a walker. I'm pretty sure lessons were learnt on both sides.

I'll continue to stick to my beloved off-road trails as much as possible I think ;). Completely different set of hazards out in the countryside! :p
