sary  I do hope you both can sort it out as for the son's friends mother:eek: it reminds me of another mother, I 'lost' my son he was about 7/8 at the time, escaped from the garden and went and played in his friends garden unbeknown to me, I was going round the whole estate shrieking his name ,heart beating, I found him happily playing in this garden with her son when I questioned the mother she just shrugged and mumbled something or other, no idea to check why my son was there without anyone, why he had just gone in, to let me know, nothing, some mothers are just:eek:

Another time a nurse friend sent home my son on his own, he had fallen badly in the park, she saw him, did not want him bleeding in her house so sent him home, a nurse, never checked to see if he was home, how he was, sure blood looks worse than it is, when I saw him I freaked and went mental at her, some mothers, we never spoke properly again.

I would have fallen out with your sons mother big time, my kids are for me to bring up not her, she has no rights and I would have ripped her head off and spat it out, I WOULD have completely lost the plot, called the police on her, shrieked, she would have wished she had never met me or son, she would be having nightmares about me and not be able to sleep.

I finally signed up to Food focus now and looks very interesting - hopefully I'll keep on track.

If you eat out how do you record your meals on there (eating at a local pub)?

Figured out how to enter food etc - I think it's telling me too few calories if I want to lose 2lb a week, so am aiming for 1lb a week - but I think it's showing on a typical day I'm not eating enough. Will enter things for the next week or so and see if that continues - but will try to increase what I'm eating.

That's close to your scales though (mine comes out at +/- 20 ish by the different methods).

OK so multiply that by 1.2 only if you are very sedentary, 1.4 for lightly active, 1.7 for moderately active, 2.0 for very active. If you think you fall between two then adjust the multiplier to whatever you think (remember it's just a guide).

That's your theoretical daily energy expenditure to maintain weight :). Reduce this by 15% to get your calorie intake to lose weight, and monitor your results for a few weeks.

If you've been eating less than this amount for a while, then I'd recommend raising the calories very, very gradually.

Did my BMR calculations using 2 sites which gave 1250 to 1350 cals to lose weight so I'll shoot for 1300 per day.

A stone to lose feels like a lot when you are wearing it, but, compared to someone with 1/4 to 1/2 of their body weight in excess is is not much and the last few pounds will get harder.

Hark at me worrying about "the last bit" already!

I am off the gym this morning, I do 5 mins walking to warm up, then weight machines.

I stayed on plan yesterday despite being hungry and surrounded by "Friday Buns" at work.

At dinner time I had 300g of mixed green veg and carrot instead of "carbs" and veg plus fish

This is't a "no carbs after 5pm thing". As Eric rightly says, rules like that only work in that they reduce overall calories. The 300g veg simply had fewer calories than veg plus rice, but still filled me up so I did not go hungry.

This trick works best with low calorie veg like cabbage/leeks/carrot. Start piling on mounds of sweetcorn or peas and I'll lose the advantage.

Big HELLO to all the fellow newbies and THANKS again to EVERYONE for the links, advice and welcomes.

sounds like your on excellent track :T

you can loose weight on anything, its possible to have a 100% only chocolate diet and loose weight, you wouldn't have much to eat and you would feel crap but you would loose weight

and this is why i bang on about lifestyle change and not dieting, its about eating all the right things and doing the exercise, done right you will feel great :)
