  • Going on this subject... is it ever acceptable for a man to wear a apron while doing the housework? And if it is, what type? My postman thinks I'm weird enough as it is.
I've been thinking about this recently, as I have a lovely wool jumper I need to wear because it's so cold here, yet it's getting dirty!

Of course it is acceptable, I would even go so far as to say it is normal. My husband always wears an apron when doing housework etc. My husband always wears a pvc coated pinny (apron)

Yes of course it is! How about getting a butchers style one? You can find them on eBay.
That's a great idea, I may even look manly with my butchers apron and a kid on the hip :)
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

I use one - I asked for it for Christmas. It means I can come in and get the tea on straight after work with splashing my smart work clothes.
    One life.

I have noticed recently that my hairdresser tends to wear a plastic apron all the time now even when I just go in for a cut and blow. When I asked why she had her apron on she just said that she prefered wearing it all the time rather tahn taking it on and off 3 or 4 time a day
Yes it is the same for me, although now our plastic apron has become part of our uniform so we have to wear one whether we want to or not. I think a nice clean plastic apron looks really nice and professional in a salon environment, I am happy to wear one at work. I have had comments form clients saying how nice the new uniforms look, much better than the old nylon tabbards which we used to wear.
  • I was demoted to Kitchen porter for swearing at my boss who is a !!!!!.
I have to wear a nylon white coat ,womans tabbard, a disposable apron and a pvc apron over all this. A hairnet and hat.
I have to work over a sink for 12 hour shifts in tremeandous heat scrubbing pans all day.
Needless to say I sweat like a pig and hate wearing plastic aprons.
I used to be a grill chef and still would have been , had my boss not upset me , now I have to take my punishment like a man. Who ever said man is the dominant species never worked at welcome break.

Are you serious, that does seem rather over the top even for a messy job like yours.
  • I have a large apron (not a pinny) which I just use for cooking and leave it out for OH when he is the cook as I am fed up trying to get stains from his clothes. I wear old clothes for cleaning and would never wear those cross over overall type aprons as when I was growing it was the standard dress for housewives, plus curlers. Hilda Ogden springs to mind.

My husband always wears his apron when he cooks, he is much more disciplined than I am when it comes to wearing an apron. He does have a nasty habit of just taking his pinny off and hanging it on the back of the door without wiping it down first, which does annoy some what but at least I don't have to constantly try and remove stains from his clothes.

Totally agree with you, my hairdresser wears a black pvc apron and I think it gives her a totally professional look. Like you, previously she wore a light blue nylon tabbard which had colour, bleach and perm stains on it, looked awful.
Do you wear an apron at home as well or have you had enough of wearing an apron at work.
  • I find that I focus more easily on what I'm doing and get more done when I put my apron on... it's a psychological cue to clean/cook and makes me feel very efficient!
  • I pretty much always wear an apron when I cook. Saves me getting messy. I always end up with something down me.
I have a great apron from when I did stint with the Pampered Chef.
