I love my pinnies - I'm a messy cook, and really need to wear one! And the first thing I ever made in Home Ec. sewing class was a pinny. All of the 1st years at my grammar school were required to wear the pinny they had made into dinner - guess they thought we'd mess up our uniforms and in my case, they were probably right.
My mum used to wear a pinny or a tabard, and my grandmothers both wore sleeveless overalls when cleaning or cooking, then changed into their "afternoon" dresses later on in the day!
Obedient women are never remembered in History!

There's an American website that sells absolutely gorgeous hand made aprons. I think it's called Heavenly Hostess.
Thanks for this, I've just been googling it -here's the link. They are gorgeous but not cheap. If you fancy making your own there are some great apron patterns here (also US).

That's the one! True, they're not cheap, but they are gorgeous and go to show that aprons don't have to look utilitarian. :)
  • I get really messy when I am cooking so I was pleased to find brand new catering aprons on sale in my local charity shop for a pound each.Hopefully no more stains on clothes...... just have to remember to put one one before I start cooking !

I've got a really pretty pink apron from Next that I wear if i'm washing up, I sometimes wear it if i'm cooking, depends what it is, whether I think it'll be messy. I tend to get water all over my clothes when I wash up :rotfl:
 Think happy & you'll be happy
    I :heart2: my doggies
  • I thought I'd be the only one left in the world who wore a pinny!! lol Anyway, I have one which is an official House of Lords apron, which my mum aquired when she worked for an MP in her home kitchen. The other one I have is white with a donkey on, which I bought from the Donkey Sanctuary just to support them really. I generally wear the House of Lords one.
If I put it on, I can then get into 'work mode', cleaning and houseworking etc, and when cooking I do get covered in flour or washing up water all the time!

If you're really keen here are 50 free apron patterns of various designs! I keep meaning to make one to use instead of my pretty but too big Tesco one.
  • I wear an apron for cooking, I have 3 (1 on, 1 in the wash and 1 spare). I am a very messy person and get sauces and stuff all over me. I don't wear one when cleaning though, I just tend to wear jogging bottoms and and an old top when cleaning or even PJ's.

I'm 22 btw and I don't think it's old fashioned, just common sense so you don't get your cloths messed up! :)

I try to wear one as it seems to get me 'in the mood' (for cleaning, that is)! Mine is a denim one with a lamb picture on the front and a big pocket that is handy for putting all those bits and pieces up around the house whilst doing the cleaning bit. At the end of it I look like a kangaroo with a very full pouch!

I don't wear an apron when cleaning or cooking, but I do tend to wear my scruffs - I've got several t-shirts that have bleach spots on them and between that and old joggy bottoms - that's my cleaning gear!
