When you're as messy as me you have to wear an apron! I have a Tetley Tea Folk one that I wear when doing messy jobs or especially when using the bleach. The amount of tops I have ruined when I haven't had it on is criminal.

I bought an apron a yr ago but keep forgetting to put it on, its only when I look down at myself & see that im covered with flour that I actually remmber it:o
  • I LOVE wearing my apron, it makes me feel "business" like. I wear it when cooking and cleaning and I generally use the apron at the front to put little bits and bobs in (generally playmobil/duplo/car wheels etc) when I am vacuuming the tiles. I have a provencal cotton apron that I wear all year round and has to be dried quickly overnight because I've only got one and I hate being without it!

I 'acquired' a fantastic couple of aprons when I was a catering manager. I have one black and one white. Both are the brand name of whites, and I would not change them for the world. I have also considered buying a chefs jacket, because whenever I bake I end up covered in stuff!!
Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

  • I wait for you to answer my poll. Then, could you please send the link to friends of yours?
  • I could add one thing to my first post.

Sometimes I wear gloves when cooking, and also when repotting flowers.

If I am cooking and are to handle something that would be really messy, like tomatoes, I take a white plastic apron (I use them for painting) and put over the kitchen apron. I also wear gloves then.

My sister Louise is a little bit like me with aprons. She too, loves wearing them.

I always wear a pvc apron when cooking and cleaning. When I was a child my mother always wore a pvc apron and she made me wear one whenever I helped in the kitchen.
It has stuck with me and I like wearing my apron and the pvc coated pinnies are really practical you just wipe them clean after you have finished.

My kids take the micky out of me when I wear one of my pinnies, but they're very useful. I have a small collection of vintage pinnies. There's an American website that sells absolutely gorgeous hand made aprons. I think it's called Heavenly Hostess.

I don't like pvc aprons, when the washing up water splashes onto it, it runs onto your feet/slippers/legs

I first started to wear an apron when I was expecting my DD....so about 19 yrs ago. 2 reasons.. when you are pregnant, the bump catches everything! Also you have fewer clothes that fit when you are pregnant and less inclined to wash things! Nothing more irritating than getting breakfast on a top before you've even left the house.

Reasons for wearing them are still practical. I can't get stuck into a job without my apron.

Other reason... if you answer the door in an apron you can indicate to your caller whether you are prepared to let them in...if it's someone you want to spend time with the hand goes back and starts undoing the pinny. To the question 'are you busy?' reply can be it's ok, was just finished/taking a break. If you answer the door with apron on, small sharp knife in the other with blood on it (as I did once when preparing liver!) then folks soon get the message!
