  • have 4 and ALWAYS wear them for cooking and baby minding but they are fairly ordinary. I just dug deep into my sewing box and found a tabard pattern `simplicity sewing patterns for dummies` 5525

I`m going to go down to the curtain fabric shop and get myself a really cheerful remnant. The ones I have (cheap from ebay.com in the US) are very nice but I quite fancy the side fastening tabard with the wider shoulder straps
  • managed to get 3 diff pics done quickly this morning... these are the ones i could get to easily...

the half slip apron is form the 50's a sheer material with lace edging..

the second one is 70's nylon smock style one....

3rs one is a thick cotton apron which is really hard to put an exact date on... they were used by servants and nurses.. so i am dating this as edwardian ..1910 - 1920. it has a lot of brown age spotting so i need to do some work to it to see if i can remove them... i have a few of this type..

sorry nothing really exciting ..but some of my collection

erm is this some kind of fetish...

I was thinking about this today whilst Christmas shopping. Throughout the thread, several of us have expressed self-conciousness over wearing aprons. I wonder if this is why. No-one thinks twice about (say) Stamp Collecting or people taking an interest in classic cars. There are many more examples. So, why do aprons provoke the notion of fetish? Is it the idea of a dominated female? Is it the typical apron-clad "dirty Nurse?" I'm not getting at you personally, Sarah. This comment is quite typical, though. Although I personally am quite happy wearing my apron at home, I do wonder how other would/do see me. As I'm getting older, I'm caring less and less, though. Does this make sense? Or is all random mumblings?

  • I should wear one after this afternoon's cooking session with my 5 year old - I'm covered in flour (on a black top & trousers combo it's so fetching! :D ) pretty much head to toe!

Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

Phillip118247First, who said I wasn't gay? I'm not as it happens, but I don't see that this has any relevence at all.I don't like shorter aprons: I want coverage. Isn't that the point? Though just out of interest, can you point me in the direction of any eBay seller you've bought from. I've yet to find any particularly good ones on eBay.Thanks for your reply

  • If you fancy making an apron with a retro style fabric look here. I haven't bought anything from them but aren't the fabrics wonderful ?

    I like this one ;)
  • oh thank you thriftlady. Just what I was looking for
  • I have ordered a very pretty apron pattern and 3 x 2yds of 3 different materials. It is very important to keep the total under $45 to avoid tax

The materials were all from the sale section

    postage was $25 ups international

I`ll get lace trimmings here and it`ll be nice to have some small sewing projects for over christmas
