Ok I'll make a mental note of that. Thanks BlueMonkey! I think it's great you're here to act as a sounding board. You know when people have told you you're a certain size for so long and then you are given the correct size it's like wow! a whole different ball game. I know you said it's like breaking in a new pair of shoes and I guess I'm seeking reassurance but after a time the straps should loosen a bit hopefully!?
I did try 34E bras on but the band size felt too big compared to a 32 so as long as there is more give in the straps I'll stick to a 32. I wish there were more ladies like you BM who knew their stuff. I was in one shop and heard a girl say to her mum she was looking for a 34C bra. I felt like saying "You should go for a fitting, I bet you're not!"0 -
B&C, the straps are there to give the bra some stability and to eve things up, a good fitting bra does not need the straps to even it up.
Some women have sloping shoulders and so certain bras are not suited to them if the straps are set wider - again, this is something you'll see once you have tried a few one. The Tango II has quite wide set straps. Loosen them off, they should not be super tight, they should not be digging in but they will hold the bra securely in place (IYSWIM - it's late, brain not working properly - I will watch as much as Most Haunted before nodding off!!). Just try and get them comfortable, not too ose and not too tight for now while you adjust to your new size.
To be honest, I wear the Freya Rio now and when I walk the dog, with my arms out the straps fall off my shoulder but I will not wear them tight as there is no need, I've got sloping shoulders (makes me sound like a freak, LOL).
Did she tell you that you should put it on by putting yourself into the bra and then putting your hand into your bra and to scoop all of the breast tissue forward into the bra cup. Because you should.
I guess I just feel really passionate about ladies being in the right size but it is not the easiest thing to bring up with people of course - otherwise I could have a field day0 -
Hi Bluemonkey,
I have been lurking on this thread and you offer so much good advise so I wondered if you are able to help me.
I was wearing a 40D for a long time and twice now I have been measured in Debenham at 6 months apart and same lady has put me in a 38E. The bras do fit much better, I have the gorgeous range, but the underwire of the bras are digging in and leaving red marks/rash and leading to spots in area underneath the breast.
Should I get remeasured somewhere else or try a different brand. Another problem I sometimes have is if the bra come up too high for under arms as the wire will rub and agian cause rash boils under the arms, although this may not necessarily be the the bra as I know that shaving can also cause this.
thanks for any advise, I am in the Harrow area.

Yes, I had to bend over to let my boobs fall into the cups and then scooped each boob forwards. It's something I will do each time now!0 -
Perhaps I've just been lucky with my M&S bra fitters. Typically for most women my shape has changed considerably over the years, with children, breastfeeding, weight gain and loss, etc. My M&S fitter showed my how she'd come to the size she had, told me to 'scoop', etc. My bras are lovely and comfy.
However, I've always wanted a Rigby & Peller fitted bra. I did poke my head around the shop on a recent visit to Westfield in London but they keep all their goods in drawers so you can't 'browse'.
Meanwhile, I've got about 40 bras in my drawer! All colours, wired, non wired, balcony, padded, tshirt, plain, matching, etcetera, etcetera!
(and over 70 pairs of knickers!) I'm a bargain shopper though and rarely pay full price.
Oh, and now I'd happily have a Blue Monkey fitting!Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
Just measured myself as per instructions on the la senza website, and by their reckoning I am a 32AA!! Which is TOTALLY wrong. My auntie is that size, and her boobs are considerably smaller than mine. Completely at a loss of what to do now lol.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit
) - £588

Wear the bra you have with the smallest band size and biggest cup size and let me know how the fit is on the cup - I'll find the right size for you.
Well iplucked up the courage and went into John Lewis for a fitting (discounted Debenhams as the girls were about 16 and I’d would have really made me feel old, fat and frumpy.)
The lady asked me what size a wore and I said anything 38 or 40 back, and F/FF/G/GG cup. But that that was just guess as I’d been never been measured.
She measured me and advised I was a 40G, but I needed to try some bras on as I may need to go up/down a little dependant on size. So she wandered out and came back and told me that because I was an “awkward” size they only had two bras in my size.
One was the “Doreen” – which I discounted without trying it on even though she advised me I would look better on. (I don’t think my BF would get near me for laughing)
The second was a Fantasie Belle (£34) I think in a beige-y colour. It fitted but I thought it looked horrid. Like my boobs had had a fight as they were if pointing outwards (if that makes sense). Also I felt my whole chest was hanging too low. She told me it was a “fantastic fit, and they could also order it in white for variety.
I made me excuses and left without buying anything (and feeling pretty crummy). They had such lovely funky pretty colourful bras and I was stuck with something my Nan would turn down for being too frumpy!!
Anyways as I needed undies I went to Marks and brought a red full cup lacy-ish bra for £18. I didn’t get fitted took a couple into the changing room and in the end went for a 38GG. It fitted like I’m used to; i.e. gave me a Cleavage that was close to spilling out of the top of my bra (I normally shop in Marks and its always the same). I’ve not worn it yet but know I’ll still get back ache and it’ll irritate but it’s the best I can do I think.
I know everyone knocks Marks, and the bras don’t last that long, but they have larger sizes in nicer colours and it’s not too expensive and I get matching Knicks (I’m a size 20/22 so this is nice)
I hate bra buying !!I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler0 -
Ive just been and bought another 4 bras the wire had started poking out of one of my favorites so it needed replacing. ive bought 4 lovely simple cotton ones from M&S i just cant wear my frilly lacy ones at the moment they are too uncomfortable. I am very naughty though and still bought underwired even though im pregnant cant be dealing with saggy boobs when i already feel like a beached whale and i dont find them uncomfortable at all so i dont see why i cant wear them :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Sorry haven't read the whole thread but wanted to answer original question. I have about 8 in various states of repair! My treat is to watch out for M&S sales such as Boxing day and stock up. Normally £24 bras are half price or more. They even do the bigger sizes (which I need). Hope this helps.A big thank you to everyone who contibutes to the MSE forums :T0
