I am not surprised at some of the posts on here. The attitude to children in this country is absolutely appalling, where they are seen not as little individuals but just as a ****** nuisance.

With the best will in the world, all the forward planning in the world can be futile, as children are very unpredictable especially with toileting. I remember the problems well, from when my own two were small. It's the selfish 'I am more important' attitude of grown adults that amazes me. So what if you have to wait a minute or two longer in a queue because a member of staff escorts a small child to the toilet? Is it such a big deal? And if you get annoyed and start complaining, is this not comparable to a child throwing a tantrum?

Small children should be allowed their dignity too. Having to lug a potty around and have a child sit on it in the street is not ideal. Would YOU do it?
Somebody said boys are easier, well my son refused point blank to 'go' outside and would be very distressed by the time we found a public/shop toilet. A grown man would be arrested and fined for doing the same thing.

I have also been refused entry to restaurants because the buggy was a "fire hazard".

Having been abroad for the first time recently, I was very pleasantly surprised at attitudes to children. The young children I saw in restaurants and cafes were well-behaved, probably as they weren't picking up the 'hostile vibes' from staff and other customers.

Is it any wonder we have children growing into 'chavs' and worse, as from an early age they are given the impression they are nothing but pests.

Rules are rules, but let common sense prevail. As adults, we should ALL be looking out for the children. And whoever said that YOUR life was more important than anybody elses?

Totally agree with the abroad bit, I lived in spain for two years and kids are seen and heard ,their the future...

In the UK we care more about pets etc than children

Here Here. The way children are treated in this country sucks! These parent-phobes seems to forget that today's children will be tommorrow's taxpayers.

Really? Are you sure it was YOU who was refused entry, or was it the buggy? If the latter, I can quite understand it and applaud the restaurant's action. If it was you and the child, then that was completely unreasonable and should never happen.

I don't know Verytrying, I was just told I couldn't bring buggy in to the place. Did the assistant think that I would go in without the buggy or vice versa? Even if I had taken the child out of the buggy, no way was I leaving it outside in a busy Glasgow street with bags of shopping etc in the tray and didn't want the hassle of emptying it out and lugging the shopping, a baby and a toddler inside. Local paper ran a story not long afterwards as they had refused a lady in a wheelchair too, as she was also considered a fire hazard.

Reminds me of a local supermarket where owners suddenly decided not to allow prams or buggies in either. I was a member of a playgroup next door and we bought our supplies for our tea bar from them every day. When a mum came and told us they refused to let her take her buggy in, we boycotted it and they lost the custom of nearly 40 mums with around 60 children who shopped there regularly. Six weeks later, they came into the group and said we would be allowed in again. Needless to say, a new shop had opened which welcomed us, was cheaper, so none of us went back.

See, it was the BUGGY, not you or the child. Nobody refused you entry to the restaurant, you chose not to stay because it became too inconvenient. And if I'd been another customer in that restaurant, I'd have been grateful to the management for not compromising my safety for your convenience.

Needless to say, I do agree that it would have been a very difficult task for you to accomplish, but then with children one has to make all sorts of sacrifices. Because if you don't make the sacrifice, then I have to and that wouldn't be fair since they are your children, not mine.

And that response displays the utter selfishness of those mummies and their darlings who think that the world ought to revolve around them. I am surprised that you think it is alright to put other people in possible danger so that you and your darlings should not be even slightly put out. Pure selfishness!
