We booked the flydrives with Travel City Direct. Total cost was £1553 4 adults and 1 child, for 14 nights. This included the platinum insurance but just a basic car - will see about upgrading if we need to when we get to the airport.

British Airways quoted us £1448 and Virgin £1442, but none of them included car hire and insurances.

Got some other quotes with different airlines and travel agents, and no one could come close.

    Hope that helps x

    Hope that helps.

You can get a basic car with full insurance for about £105 per week.(and a much bigger model for £120 or so) So if you had taken the Virgin or BA flight you would have gone on a decent scheduled airline, instead of a charter(and TCD at that) for £100 more for 5 people(£20 each).

Obviously too late in your case, and I hope you have good flights, but my advice to anyone else is to avoid TCD and go by scheduled if the price differential is so small.

The car we have booked will fit everyone in, the upgrade would be considered if we felt we needed a bit more space, so its no big problem.

    Thanks anyway

Check it'll take your luggage as well. Have a good trip

    hi there,
I am new to this site and have found all the info on here a great help!
I have booked a two week holiday to Orlando in may and was wondering if any one could give me any tips or advice on the best way to get to the theme parks as we haven't got a hire car (my partner doesn't fancy driving over there)

i have visited before and we used the I drive bus for a lot of things and the mears mini buses but they were expensive, i would ideally like to watch some of the fireworks at night etc.

we are staying on international drive.

    any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

I wouldn't worry about upgrading car at this end. I have been to Orlando 15+ times and every time I have been asked if I would like a more comfotable car and said no and every time I have been given a car which was much larger than the one I ordered. I have come to the conclusion that they have very few small cars and are just trying to get you to pay for an upgrade for a car they are going to have to give you anyway. As you say the car you have booked is large enough anyway but you may end up with a larger one if you refuse to pay for an upgrade anyway.

Have you checked with your hotel to see if they offer a mini bus service to/from the disney parks. If they don't maybe a neighbouring hotel might and you could ask them if it would be available at a charge. I don't think any of the public transport goes to the Disney Parks although the I trolly goes near to Universal and Sea World. There is a coach that you can book to go to Busch Gardens as well.

I've been a number of times, I've stayed on I Drive, Kissimmee & on site at Disney and would always hire a car, I wouldn't even contemplate going to Orlando for 2 weeks and not having a car. (just my opinion!) You should really get you partner to reconsider the driving. It really is straight forward the speed limit is 55 and most people stick to it. You can get a car for 2 weeks for not much more than £200 inc all the add on tax etc.

Trainers, jeans, some pharamcy and jewlery and cloghts in general. Take a trip to one of the many outlet villages where you can get some real bargins.

I did the trainers, jeans and gap clothes last time. My OH is a qualified goldsmith so not interested in jewellery. I want to buy something exciting. Maybe SatNav?? Even considering Flute for daughter.
