Anyhoo, in my mind, there's something up with folk in adult life who are infatuated with the Disney Corporation.

Believe me! Infatuated is not strong enough!! And she is in her 50's, but she is not alone.

philippa . Glad you got sorted. Make sure you either drive or take the cheap trolley bus right up the length of gulf boulevard ,which is about 20 miles, and see all the other beach areas. Also take a visit to the DON CESAR HOTEL in st petes , you can't miss it as its the pink one, fab hotel.. A good beach where the dolphins usually come and visit about 10 feet from the beach is PASSE A GRILLE. Have a good holiday

Well we're down to 12 days and counting til we go and I'm now starting to think about our holiday money. What do you florida buffs take with you? travellers cheques or dollars? I've got a post office credit card to avoid all those extra fees levied by most card companies but you can't pay for everything on a card. I've really no idea even how much we are likely to spend whilst there. We won't be on a budget but we won't be able to go overboard either. Any suggestions?

    thanks

I always take USD travelers cheques and a selection of dollars as well for the smaller purchases. 3 quarters travelers cheques and the rest in cash normally sorts me out ok.

useing ta credit card can be dangerous spending money you don't have.

take a goodly selection of dollars (say $500 -$1000), in the first week pay mostly with your credit card and get a feel for how much you are spending, and then tailor your spending in week 2 to use up your dollar notes (but still leave enough for a meal at the airport !).

Don't bother with travellers cheques, they're a PITA.

Keep a close eye on all offers from the likes of Thomas Cook and other travel agents as they have been doing offers on TC and/or dollars, they usually happen at the w/end so you might be lucky this w/end. I took all TC's in June due to an offer of $2 for £1 on £1,000 of TC.

Edited to add, I forgot the link to the MSE Travel Money Maximiser :)

Agree with Edinburghlass. Did the same TC deal. Will pick up some dollars from Travelex at the airport on Friday when we leave.

I have never had any bother at all with travellers cheques, and at the commission free $2=£1, I am happy with what I got

Well blow me over with a feather.

I thought that TC use had disappeared with the dinosoars !

I'm astonished that anyone could find TC's more convienient than using a (correct) credit card.

buying funny money from travelex at the airport is a very expensive way of doing it. If you prebook it online and then collect it, you'll get a much better rate.
Also, my preferred method of getting $$'s is to buy them from M&S with my &more card. NO cash advance charge, a very good rate, free delivery and if I sort out my statement dates, I can have any spare money returned and credited to the card, before I've had to pay for it.
