Total change of subject, but one that may become of great interest.
On our previous trip to Florida in 2005, we were in West Palm Beach in Dillards, a large dept store chain. In the shoe department the staff did not charge the customer the usual 6-7 % Sales Tax, because the customer was from Out-of-State. In all our years of going to Florida, I had not heard of this before, and perhaps I should have follwed it up there and then with a few questions.
Has anyone else heard of this? When you think of how much then Brits contribute to the Florida economy by Sales Tax alone, I don't imagine the state authorities shout too loudly from the rooftops about this ....

when we were in macy's they said they would give us it without state taxes AND an extra discount because floridians get coupons/discount codes etc which obviously we didn't have. think it came to 11% off overall (and they were all half price in the sale already :j ) They were items worth $2/3000 each so really good value. definately worth asking about for big purchases.
why be a song, when you can be a symphony?

What tips are you looking for? i have been 3 times May last year was the last time i was there, and it has changed so much, loads of construction work going on as they have been knocking down loads of the motels i used to stay at, and building private condos there instead. The north of clearwater is not so affected by all the work but it is still going on there too, i would recommend going to St Petes it is the same stretch of beach but further on. PM me if you need more info.

Does anyone know where I can get the cheapest price for 5 park Orlando Flex Tickets? I am looking to purchase 5 of these and the cheapest I can find so far is £116 from themeparkticketsdirect.com.

Any help or further info on themeparkticketsdirect.com (are they reliable?) would be much appreciated.

Usually direct with https://www.disney.com (US site) or onthe phone with US disney, the price is in dollars, but it is often way below UK prices. Also, if you hve an AA card ask for the AAA membership discount.

Hi, Iwas wondering if someone can help me, I am going to Florida in November (2 weeks in MIami and 2 weeks in Orlando) and I was wanting to know about Sat nav, do car hire companies give them out or would it be better to buy a cheap one over there. I would be grateful for any advice.
    thank you

Hi we had the option to hire it when we booked our hire car.

You can pay extra to hire sat nav from the car rental company, but you are looking at $10 per day or more, so $100-150 for two weeks, which is a large chunk of the price of a new one.

It would be cheaper to rent one separately in the UK. Google for companies to do this.

Or, if you would use it in the UK too, I would buy one here and purchase the extra US maps software (or get one with global maps as standard) so you can use it over there.

I'm not sure they are a lot cheaper to buy in the US, even if you don't have to pay UK customs duty, which you might. (eg, the TomTom One is $300 at Walmart's website, plus sales tax. That's about £170. You can buy it for £140-150 here.)
