I'm about to book a car for end of May but not sure of size I need ?

It is for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, plus cases (although only to I-drive).
I've seen photos of compact, intermediate etc. but find it hard to work out what will be best for us to use.

    What can you recommend, thanks

I don't think an itermediate will be big enough for you. You will struggle to get 4 cases in the boot of the car. Get a mini van like a Vogager Chysler. Everyone drives big cars in the US and you won't feel so intimidated on the roads and you will have much more room and comfort. Only 3 of us go and we always have a mini van. If you have booked your car now when you go to pick it up ask nicely what their best price is to upgrade. Remember to add Tax to the price they quote you. First time we went we decided to upgrade out there and I think it cost us about $7 per day plus tax.

On the satnav thing I'd have thought that all the main atractions will be pre programmed into the 'points of interest' section of each machine.

My tom tom has all the mcdonalds in for instance.

However before you go, getting on google maps or similar and printing out the zip codes is probably a good idea.

This for instance is the correct address for universal studios

    1000 Universal Studios Plz
    Orlando, FL 32819

I bet no one knew that :)

I agree it would be a good idea to know the zip code, but it is perhaps worth pointing out that standard zip codes cover a much wider area than UK postcodes. There are less than 10 houses in my postcode, but I understand there are usually thousands in a US 5 digit postcode, so it is not going to be enough to navigate you to the right street, in most cases. There is a "plus 4" system, which adds a further 4 digits, but this is not widely used. (Having said that, maybe Universal is big enough to get its own code.)

You really don't need a SatNav.
The nearest WalMart will sell you a Rand McNally Atlas of America for about five bucks.
And most things are very easy to find - they have to be because Americans are generally about as thick as the back of a bull's balls.

if you want a good map of orlando, with all the different places marked (restruants, parks etc), then a good map can be bught from
    http://www.carteblanche.uk.net/disneymaps/maps.html

Some US maps are a different style to UK ones, this is done by a UK person and it is very accurate.

Looking to go to Florida myself for a week. Need to find out the cheapest of the cheap hotels (hopefully some down) Miami way. Maybe even just one for first night to cover visa requirement - could always kip in the car!
  • Sat Navs are great, but the construction works on the I4 mean that it is changing almost daily... make sure your satnav is up to date and don't rely on it too much!

Whilst we are in Florida in May (on our first trip) its my daughter's 15th birthday.
Can anyone help with suggestions what to do or where to go?
Any ideas welcome like restaurants to go to, special events at Disney etc. etc.
She's a typical teenager but all ideas will help towards an eventful birthday to remember.

    Thanks

If you go to guest services at any park and ask for a birthday button you will get a badge that says 'today is my birthday' then the cast members treat you extra nicely...I've heard of people getting sung to in the shops, free ice cream...loads!
