I have just noticed that the exchange rate for the dollar is now sitting at 1.97, can anyone tell me if i would be better booking my park tickets through an american site in dollars??? and how do people take their money when they go...travellers cheques?

For my recent trip to the US, I took a wedge of cash (about £750) and put the rest on plastic couldn't be nothered with the travellers cheque thing.

  • If you are going soon I would use a credit card for most of it.
With the exchange rate as high as it is you will get a better deal than taking cash / TC.

This is who my Dad uses each time he goes to Florida. They deliver the park tickets to your hotel/house.

You do realise that shops/restaurants etc accept travellers cheques as cash don't you. A $50 travellers cheque is taken at face value with no charge for using it. So much safer if you lose your money as travellers cheques will be replaced.

ps if driving - remember to get coins, lots of them for tolls on road from airport.

My favourite Disney park, I'm sure it will be great. I'll give you a thought on the 25th :)

I do - but a CC is soooooo much easier to use, plus I don't get spanked with ridiculous charge when I try and covert my unused $ travellers cheques back in to Sterling. (plus I hate getting asked for ID for cashing TC's - it doesn't happen often, but it's just a foible of mine).

Plus, those awfully nice people at Egg insist on giving me cashback for my holiday spendind as well :T :j . As a quick comparison for you, I got between $1.845 & $1.86 to the £ on my holiday spends at the start/mid of November. The rate for $ TC's at the time was $1.85 to the £ - so why would I faff around with TC's when my plastic was working so well for me ?

Because you might come home to a surprise on your CC like I did 2 years ago. One company had altered the slip I signed and added $1000 to the charge:eek: . The shop didn't appear to be a crooked little side street shop. Luckily I had my receipt and slip I signed, but it's so easy to misplace them especially as the bill can come in weeks after you come home. Still took 3 months before CC finally wrote to say they were crediting my account back with the $1000. This is why next time we went to Florida we only used CC in places like Walmart, Publix where you key in your pin number. For everything else we used TC.

That's unfortunate, but remember the same could happen anywhere. I wouldn't let one bad experience put me off using my card.
