Bloody Petrol Prices

If only I could afford a Bluemotion, many have no option but to soldier on with what they have, this is where the VED whammy hits home, along with the spiralling cost of fuel. Remember also to factor depreciation, into your cost saving calculations.
You don't need a " Bluemotion " to save fuel, we can all save on fuel by planning journeys better and driving with a bit less right foot.;)0 -

Exactly.
I did a trial this last weekend. Had to pick up an ebay item from 60miles away.
Drove not like I stole it but at 70/80 on the dual carriageways and quickly round the suburbs. 60mile journey. 55.8 mpg.
(I do have a 4 year old diesel, Renault as it happens, (carefull Inactive).
Gave it everything I had to get max MPG on the return journey,60 max up the A38, in the wet, full load in the estate, headlights/wipers/radio on.
A result.
Over the 1st 40 miles I got 74mpg, maxed at 76 after 55miles.
When I got home over the last few miles of town traffic I had 72.5mpg recorded.
However there is a limit, try driving at 55mjpg on the motorway network,:eek:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

I wasnt saying that only buying a bluemotion was the way to save on fuel. Lots of people have cars that maybe arent as fuel efficient as other similar cars from different manufacturers or even with different engines within the same range (i'm trying not to open a diesel v petrol debate!!)
I just think when its time to change people will have to start paying v close attention to the economy of what they're driving.
And you're right whole life costs are v important - not much point in saving £1000 in fuel if its going to cost you £2000 in depreciation to do so - but i plan on driving this one for 10 years, and i was planning on buying new anyway so its not costing me any 'extra' to drive a high economy version
Also ensuring you're not paying a price premium for a version with better economy also needs to be factored in.0 -
You don't need a flashy brand new VW, by any means. My '03 Astra eco4 gives great mpg -- 65+ on the motorway. Bought at 5 years old, it cost less than my partner's 2-year-old base model ford ka, and I think it represented great value.
+1
I think there'll be even more people seeking out decent economy diesels etc and moving away from maybe 1.4 or 1.6 petrols0 -

Totally agree - i didnt mean my dull passat to cause anyone any offence by the way - i only mentioned it directly because i'm that impressed with the economy given the size of it.
Apparently the latest golfs will break 74mpg on average0 -
What I'm impressed with is the new EfficientDynamics BMWs. I mean, the new 730d does getting on for 40mpg (if not more, can't remember now). And still is very fast. 140mph+ I believe. 40mpg in a 7 series!! That would have seemed absurd 15 years ago.Totally agree - i didnt mean my dull passat to cause anyone any offence by the way - i only mentioned it directly because i'm that impressed with the economy given the size of it.

Yes, isnt there a new 320d ED due out / just out that does something like 70 odd mpg, and still have 150+ BHP.
BMW do seem to be leaps and bounds ahead on the fuel economy stakes. Even their latest 330i does into the 40's on long runs IIRC.0
