Thanks for your input; really good to get another perspective on it. Glad to see we're like-minded (maybe we're in the same age group i.e. 21+! ;) )

I'm 24? But dont do it... So i dont think age has anything to do with it!

At the end of the day we are all SELF EMPLOYED.. therefore how we choose to run our business is our personal choice.

Not knocking on doors cant be doing me too much harm.. im 3rd highest selling in rep in my area and in presidents club. Once someone is my customer i will go out of my way for them.. and give them the best customer service possible. Must be doing something right as i got lots of "tips" at christmas and presents/cards too. I have picked up numerous customers through "recommendation" too from my customers, mostly people who have been let down by unreliable reps in the past!! I often get comments about how good a rep i am from customers and not like their past ones.. so even though i AM money minded (afterall avon pays my bills) i still give excellent customer service.

Im not having a go at anyone with this post.. i just wanna point out to any newbies reading this that just dropping books can work too.

As i say being an avon rep is running your own business so how you choose to run it is mostly your own decisions and choices :)
  • Hello everyone,
I am new here, just signed up to use this thread really. I have been selling Avon since December last year and my ASM just came to me wanting me to be a sales leader which I am really excited about, but haven't managed to spark the interest of any friends. Going to do some expired brochure drops and put out some leaflets this week but I keep panicking I am not going to get any response :)
Anyways, enough of my going on, great to be here :)

Thanks for saving me the effort of typing a long post Johanne - I would have said exactly the same as you :D

Like J, I appreciate and respect other points of view, but I think it depends on a number of things which method is best for you. Personally, I feel I am being intrusive if I do too much door knocking - I'm not keen on having people ringing my bell and trying to sell me things (no, I know we're not actually selling, just asking whether people would like a brochure), so I'm reluctant to do the same to others. I also feel that I would lose out on people who will glance at the brochure and see something interesting; I have a number of, now regular, customers who originally said no to a brochure. I think people are naturally wary and will default to 'no thanks' rather than risk getting into something they'll regret. However, as J said - there's no right or wrong, just what works for you.

Someone asked a while back how often we deliver to our customers. My own method is to deliver a book to anyone who has bought in the past year or so every campaign. Those who ordered once, or have never ordered, get a book every second campaign except around Christmas when I drop to everyone. Of course, if someone has asked me not to leave a book, then I'll respect that (at least until I recanvass :p) HTH

I see the online invoices are still well behind - mine is usually up on Saturday morning but hasn't yet appeared.

    .......and finally :D
Aureol - I guess you'll be reading this when you get home from your first day back at work. I hope you're not too knackered - let us know how you got on when you have the energy ;)

Thanks Elliebee and Johanne - I agree, everyone should do whatever works for them.

Personally with working full time and the dark nights, I don't feel that I have the time to door knock. Door dropping seems to work for me as I'm picking up new customers each campaign.

Lots of orders to deliver tomorrow (my most yet!) so am pleased that the nights are finally a little bit lighter - less digging around in the boot of the car with a torch trying to see what bag is for what customer!

Yet again (following the slipping in the snow episodes), I expect I am giving the curtain twitchers much amusement!!!

Right, the website has now officially gone wrong!
Still no subtotal button, and now my front page doesn't show how many days I've got left on this campaign!!

Have rung the PC telephone line to tell them, so perhaps it will get sorted out....but then again, perhaps not :p

Brill thanks, I'm not panicking too much yet as I've got 14 days of this camp left, but the subtotal thing is a bit annoying as I think I've ordered a couple of bargain bags from the daily online offers, and I can't remember what they are or how much they were! Oops!
  • I agree with Johanne, avon is your business so do it the way which suits you best, half the customers might prefer for you to knock but half might prefer to post it. If I was the customer I'd prefer for it to be posted so they're not bothering me when I'm busy and I can look at the book in my own time and decide if I wanted to see one again or not. When I first started avon nearly 3 years ago I knocked on every door but alot of people said no, so the next time I put a book through everyones door and most of the people who said no the first time then ordered because they hadn't saw a book for years and thought all products were expensive and didnt realise all the offers avon used now. Alot of OH's had answered the door the first time and said no, there was no way they could hide the avon book from them when I'd put it through their door! Of course that does mean you lose alot of books but thats why I use my last books to back order when recanvassing

Wasn't saying that 'asking' was better than 'stuffing' - simply that it seemed to make sense to me especially when you are first starting out with only 20 books!

Of course, it's each to their own. Congrats on achieving PC; glad things are going so well for you.
