Starry-eyed - if you don't try, you'll never know. I'm another one who is really shy (although most people never guess as much!) but like Johanne, I just shove a book through the door and let IT do the talking
You really have very little to lose as long as you keep to the 'no money, no goods' rule - I always say that I'll get really confused if I leave the goods without taking the money as most people can identify with that and it doesn't look as though you are being mis-trusting
Speaking personally, I have very little problem with unpleasant people. I always comply if someone asks me not to leave a book although I re-canvass with a polite note around every 9 months. You will have all the support you need on here - we've all been there, so there's no such thing as a stupid question (and anyway, see my signature
) Let us know how you get on.
Silversoldier - welcome. Glad you've finally gone officialPleased we've been of help.
Johanne - BRILLIANT!!!!! Well done - you put us all to shame:beer:

What are the two target values for orders? I remember the ASM mentioning £70 something, but I can't remember the other. And if that value inclusive of the items you might order, i.e. the items with no discount?Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0

i *think* they are £78 and £148 ( one the sls can clarify this)
and yeah it includes everything.. including your stuff with no discount... your books, any stationary any clearance items or demo. everything0 -

That's alright then, at least I scrapped through the lowest one. C10 has been rubbish for me.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0 -

well signed a lovely lady uptonight so things are looking good, though mil is thinking of stopping as she doesn't have much time with caring for her dad...but on the plus side if she does well be able to babysit her territory for her in case she wants to start up again later on so more sales for us....especially as we'll recanvass (I think she's allergic to that word lol).Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0 -
Johanne that is amazing well done
Here's to silver next!
Lozza recanvassing your MILs area wohoo!
Not a bad campaign by my standards, each campaign is seeing new customers which can only be good and I just found out my Aunt and cousin work at Corby. They should know a thing or two lol!!
Does anyone have a black/brown supershock I could buy please as I missed one off my order durr!K xx

I told my Mum what had happened and she told me not to do it, she said people often have trouble with people not paying up and it would be too much stress for me.
I'm 22, going in to my final year of uni, and I work 18.5 hours a week, I moved in to my own place with my boyfriend in March and so am new to this area anyway and don't really know many people around here.
I guess I just needed somewhere to vent my concerns lol. I am hoping to give it ago at least over summer, but I just need ways to boost my confidence up.
Hi again.
I think a few of us on this thread will tell you that we are quite shy or were quite shy when we first started doing Avon.
Ok, if you are worried about people in their own homes, become a stuffer! By stuffer we mean someone who puts their book through the letterbox and runs(not literally) to the next house and does the same again.
There are some lovely ladies on here who have a "Hi, I am your Avon Representative" leaflet that you can put on the front of your books when you first deliver. This tells people you are the new Avon Representative and also asks them if they want to see another book. If they say no, that is fine, just keep a record of their door number and don't deliver a book for about 6 months. After 6 months, just do a "I know you have previously advised you are not interested, but just thought you might like to see another one...."
This is one hurdle over and done with.
With regards to Uni and your part time work, come the end of summer you might have an established customer base and you may decide to only canvass this customer base while concentrating on your studies and your part time job. This way Avon can fit into your life, not the other way around.
Yes it can be daunting at first, but you will soon find your confidence grows. And as for not knowing anyone in the area, it's not a bad thing. Being a Rep will give you a chance to get to know more people around your area.
If at the end of summer you feel it is too much with Uni and part time job, you can always give it up at no repercussions to you.
Oh and the best thing about doing avon? You get to buy discounted goods for yourself and nice pressies for friends and family that don't cost the earth! So you can stock up for birthdays, xmas, etc.
I hope this helps a little, but if you have any more questions, please just ask.:)0 -
Well done to Johanne - as they say, you reap what you sow.
I've never had a really bad experience with a customer although some old boy had a go at me a few months ago for parking in his spot. My customer came out (his next door neighbour) and shouted him down with a few choice 4 letter words! I was so embarassed. But the customers themselves are okay.
I find that my regulars who have an item missing from their order tend to pay me the full amount and trust me to give them the item with their next order rather than expect to pay later. I only have one bad payer and I tend to give her a few weeks to come up with the readies or I send her order back. It's someone I used to work with so I just go with the flow.
Good luck, I am another shy stuffer. In fact I am in the process of finding someone to take on a party I've been offered as I really would not be able to do one myself - even with the wonderful tips on here. I know some of you would think I am mad but its less stressful for me to pass it on. It's for a customers daughter who doesn't usually order from me so I see it as a missed opportunity rather than lost business. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Well done, Johanne, am slightly behind you (although if I hadn't bothered trying the SL route and signing up my OH I'd've been there before you! )
Starry-Eyed, welcome to the thread and sure you'll get lots of excellent advice and support on here. Got to admit though that some unknown ASM turning up unannounced at my door, dropping off 60 books and saying they'll come back a few days later would not exactly fill me with joy......
If you read back, you'll probably see that reps tend to get more support if they sign up via a Sales Leader rather than an Area Sales Manager - each to their own though. Equally, 'the norm' is for new reps to be given 20 books (or maybe 20 current + 20 back campaign) - never, ever heard of 60 books being given to someone, who may or may not even want to be an Avon rep!
Could be wrong but.... ASMs have their own targets to meet so it could be more important to her to actually sign you up (and not care less what happens after then) than to make sure you have sufficient grounding to be successful doing Avon.
There are various Sales Leaders that subscribe to this thread and my best advice would be to at least see if you have one based near enough to you to be able to give you sufficient ongoing support. (Provided you don't sign the agreement that, presumably, the ASM is going to bring next week then no probs..... you can sign up with whoever you wish.)
Sorry, if my post sounds negative; it's not meant to be, honest. I'm really glad I started being an Avon rep - just it's not for everyone and not something to be 'pushed' into without the reassurance of ongoing support.
Good luck whatever you decide to do.Make the most of everything in life (especially Avon)
