  • Hi Guys,
I've had a quick look through this thread, which I am hoping to look over in more detail this afternoon, with an iced lolly in the garden :) (not often you can say that type of thing!)

Something very strange happened yesterday, I was sitting watching TV before getting ready for work and a lady called at the door telling me she was the Area Sales Manager for Avon, she had been recommended to come see me by one of the neighbours in the area.

The reason for her call was that the area I live in currently does not have a Avon representative and she was asking if I would like to do it, I said I would think about it, because although while I could do with a bit of extra money, this is quite a scary though to get my head around, especially since I was approached rather than thinking it through and then applying for it.

Anyway she has left me with 60 brochures and order forms, and a few magazines to read over, she said she will come and see me properly on Tuesday, as I didn't have much time yesterday before I had to rush out to work.

I'm quite nervous, I can be quite shy, and I don't like confrontation from mean people, especially if I'm calling at their door. I told my Mum what had happened and she told me not to do it, she said people often have trouble with people not paying up and it would be too much stress for me.

I'm 22, going in to my final year of uni, and I work 18.5 hours a week, I moved in to my own place with my boyfriend in March and so am new to this area anyway and don't really know many people around here.

I guess I just needed somewhere to vent my concerns lol. I am hoping to give it ago at least over summer, but I just need ways to boost my confidence up.

Thanks for the people who have taken time on this thread, I'm going to have a good look through and write down my fave tips :)

hehe i wish!!! The ladies (and man) who won the cruise last year sell 35k upwards!!! No chance of that happening here lol

I dont do ANY selling to be honest... i literally pop the brochure through doors and let it do the talking for me!! Very rare my customers ask me for any help with choosing stuff or ask for my opinion.

Johanne, fab news! Well done! It doesn't matter if you just pop the brochure through the door and it does all the selling for you, the point is you are making the effort to get out there and post books and collect books and recanvass and put the orders through. On delivery day, sort and batch and deliver! That isn't easy at that amount!

So :j to you!!!! Well done hun, you are an inspiration!

    Hi Starry-eyed

I have jumped on my laptop to grab an address and have read your post. I will come back later and answer your questions if someone hasn't already but I would say, give it a go for 2 weeks and see how you get on. If after 2 weeks you feel it isn't for you, you can tell Avon you don't want to carry on without any repercussions to you.

I will be back though to give you some advice. :)

    Hi hun,

firstly thanks for posting, the girlies (and men) who post on here are lovely..... they will help you loads.

Your mum is right, you MAY get people messing you about with payment, BUT just make sure you never give over any goods without payment first - treat yourself like a shop.. people wouldnt expect to walk out of boots with a bag of stuff and say "oh i'll pay you tomorrow" ... so ALWAYS make sure you have the money in your hand before you hand anything over. Then if they dont pay you... you just send it back to avon and your not out of pocket.

If your in your final year of uni and already do 18.5 hours it may be a bit much to do avon on top of that all! BUT over the summer sure you could try it out and see how organised you can be and if you can fit it in?

Its a good way to get to know people in the area, im a VERY shy person and suffer anxiety attacks but doing this has got me out and about in the area and although ive made no "friends" as alot of my ladies are alot older than me ive still got customers i stop and chat too when delivering and people always say hiya to me in the street or nod and smile and might stop and talk to me for a few mins even if its only to ask about avon or to tell me they're going away or something.. oh and got a few presents and tips at christmas! :)

You can but try though as you have nothing to loose and with the support off this thread im sure you can do well :)

Any questions or help dont be scared to ask!

This was my main concern, as I get very anxious too. I wouldn't say I have anxiety attacks, but never the less, I suppose this might hopefully boost my confidence a bit :)

I still haven't decided if i'm going to be a 'stuffer' or a 'knocker' though, I might have to have a think about this :) haha

I think I'll give it a try over summer, I have nothing other than my little job to occupy me, so it might be worth a go :) Everyone here seems very friendly too, so I'll make sure I keep checking back for more Avon chat :)
