    I just get the fancy fluffy wool, cast on 26 stitches and knit until the wool runs out; I'm using size 1 needles at the moment (sorry, not got the size in mm to hand).

    I wouldn't say you need a pattern really becasue with the fluffy wools, a basic scarf can look quite impressive anyway!

    if by fluffy wool you mean the new one that feels feathery and soft to the touch it knits up loads easier than the bobbly one. i actually one a knit kit off ebay that included wool, pattern and needles. i will copy it here for you, this is what the pattern says. i personally found it alot easier to just use knit stitch throughout. it knitted up quicker and i didnt have to keep wondering if i was following pattern properly. either way it knits up so lovely and fluffy that you dont really see what stitch was used

    here goes;

    3 x 50g wool
    pair of 4mm needles
    cast on 40 stitches
    row 1 (right side), knit
    row 2 knit2, purl36, knit 2
    these 2 rows form pattern, continue pattern until ou have enough of the 3rd ball to cast off

    What stitches do you use? I can knit (plain), purl and do rib (knit 1,purl 1). What do you find works best?

    I wouldn't say the one I've got is soft to the touch, it's actually quite 'spikey'. But I do know the stuff you're talking about. I did my Mum a lovely cerise scarf in that soft stuff!

    Thing is, there are so many different types of wool, so much to choose from and all give such lovely results!

    I've just signed up to the Lion Brand site. Some good patterns on there. Thanks.

    Bizzylizzy: I just knit for every row.

    Hi everyone

    Thanks to everyone for their help:T :T

    When I made my boys scarves I used double knit and did them in rib which turned out lovely and warm but i find just plain knit much easier and more relaxing to do.

    I quite fancy using the soft fluffy yarn :j :j

    I think I'll probably use just plain knitting at first to see how it turns out.
