  • dinah thanks so much for the links, im having 5 BM's so i need them to be<£40

kitten where are you getting these figures from?
that is a massive amount unless your inviting hundreds but even then you dont have to spend that much
what venue do you want to use?
registry offices tend to be cheapest charging from £30- around £300
how many guests will you have day+night?
if you have the ceremony later on in the day you can just feed your guests once!
there are lots of ways to cut your spending down tell us what you do and dont want and we can help x

There are about 40/45 who I would like at the ceremony, am happy to do registry office as neither of us are particuarly religious, and the h2b's church is ugly, and the local reg office is very pretty. For the evening part looking at 60-75 guests. The costs I was putting together are based on ceremony, wedding breakfast, evening do buffet and entertainment, flowers, wedding party outfits, hair and makeup for me (though a friend has offered) stationary, table favours, cheap photograhy (I.e. sweet talking family members!) wedding rings (though we are hoping to do tesco clubcard vouchers for Goldmsiths!) and the honeymoon, if I take that off its about 7.5k. Have not got car prices but don't want anything fancy tbh. Just need to decide what we want out of the day I guess! Mum is making the cake so no cost there.

I just keep worrying I am missing something, or look cheap! I love the idea of just having one meal and not fussed about a formal wedding breakfast, my aunt only had meal after wedding last year and was good, we were all knackered by about 6pm so was good to go home! Am also inspired by one of the earlier threads about having a tea-party, though not sure on actual logistics of doing that option! Am off to work now, not sure if missed anything, will come back and check later! Thanks for all your support ladies xx:money:

Hello everyone. :wave:Wondering if I could join you lovely people

Getting married on 11th June 2011 and I'm feeling a little swamped at the moment!

Studying full time at college and trying to plan a wedding is making me feel down and it shouldn't be!:(:(:(

H2B works 2-10 everyday and by the time I see him when he gets back the last thing he wants to do is talk about getting married.

Has anyone else felt like this?

Mine doesn't really want to talk weddings much at all, I've started ending sentances with ...I really wasn't sure about the cost it's so expensive but if you're ok then I'll get it ordered... and he'll have a conversation with me :rotfl:

Could you maybe make notes and lists then get together with your OH at weekend to see what thoughts and ideas he has? Or stalk your mum/bridesmaid, I can phone my mum abot 10 times a day, between all the emails

I would stalk my bridesmaids but they've just jetted off to Ibiza for a week and one of them is only 10! The other one I try not to get to much into the wedding with as I think she might try and take over!

My mum's got a lot of things on her mind at the mo (problems with her health) so I might have to try your other idea.....writing lists and dotting them round the flat for H2B to help with as and when =)

We are having 40 to the ceremony & wedding breakfast, 75-80 to the evening with buffet & band, photographer, cake, suit hire, transport back to venue, favours, flowers, gifts, BM dress, suit hire for 4 men for just about £5.5k. I already had my dress and am paying for mine & BM hair & makeup myself, have bought shoes & already had accessories, but if I'd added that all in it is another £600. We've done Goldsmiths for our rings, and OH is paying for our mini-moon, Thos.Cook vouchers on list for honeymoon next year.

Ours is similar to yours Floss, I'm hoping to get the day guests down a little and we're having the evening in a diffferent place to get the price a bit lower and as we can do the buffet ourselves. My estimate comes in at 5k, that doesn't include minimoon or OH stag do, I think I might be under but some things I have been able to get cheaper than what I estimated.

kitten go for the reg office then, look them up then phone them to find out their exact fees as it differs from place to place
have you got a town or village hall you can hire for the after party?
there are lots of websites, and even on here,to give you loads of ideas how to decorate it
sign upto all the wedding forums going and nik their ideas but do the 'down shift challenge' thinking how could i do/get this cheaper
scour ebay for favours and centrepieces, poundlands also good and the other discount stores
wait til the end of summer when everyone has their wedding stuff on sale, as your doing it in a couple of years youll have alot of sales!
dont have a wedding car, book a taxi or ask someone with a nice car to tie a ribbon onto it
be very careful about where you get your dress from, even though it may only be a couple of hundred pounds to buy from china you wil not know what sort of state it will be in when it gets here and you may have just blown your budget for your dress
there are a few threads on here with scary stories
stick to ebay(uk sellers) with great feedback or look at preloved and the like, franny can help with this when the time comes!
get married as late in the day as you can so you can just have one meal maybe a bbq if its summer(!) or a buffet is really cheap to do too, you can prepare stuff a couple of days in advance if kept cold and as your getting married later youl have the morning too, also ask friends and rellys to help
tesco clubcard is a good idea for rings
dont count your honeymoon into your budget if you cant afford it, you could ask for airline vouchers as wedding gifts or you may even get given enough money to buy it after or just save again after the wedding for your honeymoon
if theres anything else specific then ask again x
hi nunny and welcome and congrats!:)
i dont want to talk to my h2b about wedding stuff incase he disagrees with what i want lol
but seriously i dont get in til gone ten and i dont want to talk about wedding then either! but i do it in the day(could you phone or text h2b in the day on his work breaks?) and we're on here so if you ever want to chat come on over!
I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p

queen b that is very exciting good luck xx
have you got any pics of it?

I can't post any pics as quite a few of my family members post around the forum and there's only me and my mum knowing which dress it is until the day. I can say that it's a Maggie Sottero, totally ruined my dress budget :D but I did manage to wangle a bit of discount off it so quite pleased with myself as I hate haggling.

MrsMoore - I love your dress, looks really light and floaty. I was so excited going to get my dress yesterday, I couldn't eat my lunch afterwards and was smiling all afternoon. I resisted taking pictures of me in my dress, I can't trust that it won't end up in the wrong hands and I want it to be a total surprise.

Talking of men, my OH doesn't like partaking in wedding chat so I mention expensive prices too then he starts to take notice, ha! Must be a common thing amongst men. It's nice to come on here and chat to other brides, must try and get on more often.
    I :heart2: saving money
