Thanks bubbles, I guess I'm just worrying with the weekend being a national holiday and half term that we need invites out sooner so other things need sorting sooner too!

Do you have a date now?

  • Gemmzie, our wedding is on a bank holiday weekend at the biginning of the May / June half term this year and we sent our invites in January. If you want to do *something* before the summer holidays, I'd send out save the dates in June. That gives you a bit of breathing space on when you need to send your invites. Otherwise a lot of it can wait. HTH

  • Grrrrr. You know there's often at least one person you invite to the evening half expecting them to say no? Well.......

OH has been saying for ages that he doesn't see as much of his old school friends as he'd like (they keep in touch via email / phone / facebook etc) so I thought I'd be nice and send them an evening invite so they didn't think they'd be forgotten. I'm still waiting to hear from some of them, but one of them (who lives 130 miles away) is seriously considering it!!!!

  • hi all, i'm S and i'm a newbie here! got engaged to my lovely Beardy on jan 15th, our 5-year anniversary... he bought me the perfect ring, one which i have had my eye on since about 2006 :D however, we're not even supposed to be thinking about thinking about planning until he graduates uni in june this year... but i can't help it! i've been reading this forum in every spare minute i have at work for the past month, haha, and i just want someone to squee at. :D

we want either a january wedding to coincide with our anniversary, or a september wedding 'cause it's the prettiest month. it's not going to be till sept 2013 at the very earliest to allow us to get some money saved but i've chosen a colour scheme (sage green - gorgeous), a theme (very loosely celtic!) a dress (that i can't afford! - Sabina by lindsay fleming). i know i want ivy everywhere as decorations. we're torn over the cake - i don't like tradtional wedding cake but he loves it and he doesn't like the idea of a cupcake tier! :( in the past month i've found about three different 'perfect' venues... bridesmaids mostly chosen (my best friend of 12yrs and my teenaged sister, + brother's gf as a possible third and OH's niece as a possible flower girl). i've been trying to figure out my guest list 'cause i think that's the first thing you're meant to do but it's proving difficult - i always thought i wanted a teeny small wedding, but it seems like i know more people than i thought i did! plus i recently got made permanent in my temporary job - so presumably by the time the wedding rolls around i'll have close friends here who i'll want to invite!

all these thoughts and i'm not even supposed to be planning yet! crazy. the OH pointed this out to me the other day - think he's getting a tad irritated! he's pretty easygoing though, he doesn't mind that mugh. :D

sorry for the big ramble, but i just love this thread and all your thoughts and ideas and problems and successes... it's really giving me loads to think about!

aw thats a lovely unrambling post S lol
you are only thinking about these things though arent you, you havent actually paid for anything yet so tell h2b thats when he needs to worry lol
why is it dependant on when he graduates? does that determine your income? x

  • Hello and welcome to the madhouse! Congratulations and *squeeeeeee*

Once you start posting on here rather than lurking, you'll probably start irritating OH a little less because you have somewhere you can let all your ideas out.

It will come around sooner than you think - we got engaged in August 2008.

  • :D thanks for the welcome and the congratulations! congrats to both of you too on your impending nuptials - your may 2011 date is so soon, clearing_out_my_pockets, you're on the home stretch now!! :D i know it's going to go so quickly - it definitely doesn't seem like 5 years since we got together, so another 2/3 years is presumably going to woosh by too! :O

only thinking (and googling and bookmarking and scrapbooking...) about stuff, yes. we have no money to pay for anything right now. :( hehe, he's not really worried, he's usually quite happy to talk about things with me generally. but yes, it's mostly a financial thing - we can't really plan until we've got a stable income, which won't come until he's no longer a student!

my income's nice and stable now after struggling since i graduated in 2009, and hopefully when his uni work peters out in march/april he's going to move from part- to full-time in his current job which will help our income - but he's studying building surveying, and obviously ideally he wants to find a job in his field rather than a shop job! i've opened a savings account which i'm paying money into every month, and he's going to do the same when he goes full time. really hoping we'll get some financial assistance from parents but can't rely on it as mine are really skint; his are usually very generous but he's planning on learning to drive with his next student loan installment in april so we're hoping they'll buy him a car! :O it's so scary how fast money vanishes, too; i'm 22 & he's 23 - we've been living together since june 2009 but i think it's taking us a bit of time to adjust to being grown-up! we're getting a better handle of it though, this budgeting and saving malarkey. :)

thanks for listening (or reading i suppose!) to me, you guys. :D
  • aw bubbles that's brill news - not only that they're what you wanted, but hurray for being complimentary, too! :)
