i think it's a lovely idea, and very brave. A less scary alternative is to have something secret between the two of you engraved inside his ring, which somehow you manage to give to the best man so your oh doesn't see it.

i can get away with covering it as ive got a little dry skin under my engagement ring so i could say im softening it up!i know your not supposed to keep them covered but itll only be for a couple of days

I wouldn't go there for the first one, very painful. I'm having a tattoo related to the wedding, but as our surname will the same as a chess piece I might get on my foot to go with the one I already have there:)

I have one tattoo and it was designed by my OH last October for our birthdays, I love it. If the worse happened, I'd always remember it fondly because he's my first love and that would mean so much to me anyway.
As for fingers, you can get numbing cream at some places and I'd really recommend it, it lasts about an hour so plenty of time for a finger tattoo, mine wore off on my hip after an hour (it's pretty big!) and then it hurt because there's very little flesh so I'd imagine finger would be similar.
I'm thinking of having our wedding date tattoed at some point too.
