Thanks for the advice poorbutrich, it's good to know that someone has managed this. I used to spend £300 a month on clothes easily but I stopped when my budget wouldn't allow it, I get so tempted to just scream and stuff all this buudgeting and money saving and p!ss away everything I have on shopping and anything else I feel like!!

I know exactly how you feel :( I really hope you can sit down with him and get it sorted. I noticed that my OH was spending a fortune on smoking with certain friends who were leading him astray :D so tried to gently nudge him towards spending time with his better behaved friends! I thought it was a bit too much to ask him to quit completely so I think he has the odd cig here and there just so it doesn't feel like it is completely forbidden as that probably makes it more tempting.

    Hope things work out :T

Always remember you are marrying the person they are now, not the person they have the potential to be. People have to really want to quit in order to quit. My H2B was smoking 40 a day when I met him, a few months in he asked if I could see a future with him, and I said no, I wanted a long life with my partner, and therefore would never settle down with a smoker. His response 'well then I've smoked my last one, you're worth it'. That was over two years ago, he hasn't slipped up once since, and that he did that for me means I never doubt or distrust him. Smoking is a huge issue if people disagree on it, I couldn't stand there watching someone I love killing himself (and while he had the money then, we don't now), but you need to find a way to make your peace with it one way or the other before the wedding, as the extreme likelyhood is that he won't change after it, so you need to be happy before saying I do. x

I'm in a similar position to you Dinah. My OH had his last cigarette (bar two puffs which I knew about) the night we met, he decided then I was worth quitting for as friends had told him I'd never date a smoker. My mum has been trying to get my dad to give up for 25 years of marriage without luck. You need to decide if it's going to be a deal-breaker for you.

For my favours (bags with mixture of sweets) do i put tags on them saying the names and the date of the wedding? Or just have the bags?

    eBay for postboxes maybe? postbox?

We're having just our names and the date on the favours.....but we've ordered labels from vistaprint for that. We're also giving out "wishes" ;)

i think your names and date would be a nice touch rather than just the bags
if you go with ebay make sure you ask the seller to post as quickly as possible using the fastest(speacial next day delivery with royal mail)and youll pay the extra cost

  • Hi guys, not been online for a while so lots to catch up on! Congrats to all those who have had their big day in the last couple of weeks!

Well last time I posted my OH was debating whether or not to take a job offer, well he decided to go for it and started Monday! He's enjoying it so far except for the 5am starts! Better company to work for than his last job and much more secure. So that's all good and we can now budget properly for the wedding as we know exactly how much he'll get paid every week.

Not done much else in the way of wedding planning, we'd hoped to go see some venues this weekend but unfortunately OH's aunty passed away last weekend and so we're going down on Sat for funeral on Mon. Then last night my sister was admitted to hospital, so will be spending my days off up there! Might take some wedding mags to read when she's asleep. Thankfully they know what's wrong and she shouldn't be in more than a few days.

Hope everyone else is getting on well with their planning! X
  • Ps-totally with you girls on the smoking issue! My OH promised he'd try and give up when he moved in, and still waiting 3 months later! His excuse was he was working outside and everyone else smoked so it would've been too hard. Now he has a new job, where he is driving a company vehicle, so won't be allowed to smoke in that! Gonna leave him this week and bring it up after the weekend. Then if he could only stop spending as much on scratch cards...
