Iron soleplate:
What type do you have?
What you clean with also depends on the soleplate - ceramic or metal?
You don't want something that eats away at the soleplate.0 -

Hi,
I agree with building with lego. After trying different ways of cleaning our iron. I found that the easiest/effective way is Lakeland Hot Iron Cleaner.0 -
Please can anyone help with how I can get the burn marks off my iron? I always manage to burn something to the plate & end up with brown burn marks & the bottom of the iron sticks to whatever I'm ironing (result of being too impatient & ironing at highest setting all the time )
Also does anyone know if it would be ok to use filtered water with essential oils in it instead of those expensive ironing waters that I like so much?
Thanks0 -
I water down my perfumed ironing water with filtered water. 1 part ironing water and 3 parts filtered water.:hello:0

I use a washing up sponge (the green wiry bit) to remove burnt on bits on the iron. but the way to avoid that is to sort the ironing into synthetics
cotton/synthetic mixes
cottons
linens (including jeans)
then you start with the synthetics and when you finish those turn the iron up and start on the mixes and so on.
you should avoid burn marks on your clothes and 'bits' on your iron that way.
If you find that the iron is too hot for the fabric - use a tea towel or handkerchief and iron over that with the item underneath.
I think everyone has burned something - some fabrics are just not 'iron friendly' even if the label says they are! and some irons are 'temperamental'. I had one iron which ironed even cotton on synthetics!0
