My other half dropped the iron onto our lounge carpet this weekend. Luckily the carpet has come off unscathed, but the iron has an imprint of the carpet on it.

What's the best way to clean it off?
    Thanks.

That happened to me last week

    Luckily carpet is ok

In which case I would switch it on to its lowest setting, turn it off and then give it a scrub with a nylon scourer. If that doesn't work the OH owes the OP a new iron. And gets a clip round the ear.

A non-OS version (ssssssssshhhh) is Sticky Stuff Remover from Lakeland. It's fab. Non toxic and non-smelly. I use it all the time; it gets sticky jam labels off so you can reuse the jars, and all sorts of other things too. It even works on skin and hair for chewing gum "incidents".

I use sticky stuff remover for everything and was trying to find if I could use it on a Steam generated iron soleplate (as hubby decided to iron a motif!!!) So thank you, you are THE only mention of ssr in 3 google pages!! xxx

Other way of cleaning it is keeping it warm and rubbing it with an old white cotton towel, tea towel, pillow case etc

The imprint will be plastic ( nylon ) and will rub off as long as they are warm
