Hi stefano,
As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to our main thread on cleaning sole plates on irons where you'll find lots of tips and advice.

Hi,
I am just wondering if anyone can help.
I have an iron that has got some kind of burn type mark on the underneath, and if i'm not careful, it transfers to the item.
When its cold i cant shift it. Trying with a clean hot cloth seems to make no odds either.
Does anyone know how to shift the crud ?
Cheers

I have a supposedly non-stick one from Tefal - it's the worst. Love the iron, hate the soleplate.
I just use a non-scratch scourer and some Astonish paste. I usually have a sore arm by the time it's as clean as it's going to be. It takes me about 20 minutes at least.0 -
If you have a stainless steel plate - try a brillo pad. very gently! while the iron is warm. rinse it thoroughly after with a sponge dipped in water.0

Scrunch up some tinfoil and gently rub over the mark and it should come off easily. It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0

Hello ITGuy1
I have a bar of beeswax which I use to clean the iron plate. I've wrapped the bar of beeswax in a linen handkerchief. When the iron is switched off but is still quite hot, I run the beeswax over the iron plate.
Then I iron a sheet of kitchen roll, to wipe off the beeswax and burn/stain residue from the iron plate.
Repeat this a couple of times or until the iron plate is clean and gleaming like new.
The added benefit of using beeswax is that it (the bar of beeswax)lasts for years..............and when you next use the iron, it glides over the items you're ironing.
Here is a link to show you what a bar of beeswax looks like;):

My other half dropped the iron onto our lounge carpet this weekend. Luckily the carpet has come off unscathed, but the iron has an imprint of the carpet on it.
What's the best way to clean it off?
Thanks.0
