Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if this is a repeat.
Warm the iron and then rub the plate with kitchen towel that has been sprayed with WD40.
Worked wonders for me and no effort.
Run the iron over some scrap cloth briefly to remove any residue.0 -
Oohh didn't have an WD40....instead used some olive oil. it came off in a second!Weightloss: 18lbs/28lbs (Start weight: 11st, Current 9st 10)

What's the best way to get rid of this?
Much as I could do with an excuse not to do the ironing, I really need to sort this soon becuase I've got no clothes for work tomorrow otherwiseIt's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -

This is a temporary fix - heat the iron quite hot then rub it vertically down the edge of your ironing board bottom of iron to top - imagine your palm is the iron sole plate and put it at the wrist against the edge of the board then move it down to the fingertips. Be firm. Then iron at a cooler temperature than usual.
Works best on those metallic covers.
ETA just looked this up in a book I've got. Put salt on brown paper and iron this until the salt grains remove the "muck". No idea if it works!"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Thanks for such quick replies. I will try both! It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0

I gently rubbed mine with a paste of bicarb and water, being careful not to get it in the steam holes! Came up just like new.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

I usually warm it slightly then have a go with washing up liquid and one of those green scourer thingies. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
