The moo household reached crisis point yesterday when the power supply to the PC keeled over and died. All plans for a leisurely day doing nowt disappeared down the swanee. Its not like you can watch TV on the iplayer when theres no PC to play it back through. Nor can you surf for x-mas gifts or play on-line games. OH and DD1 took this as divine intervention and legged it from the house of the invalids to the delights of the out of town shopping mecca in a quest for a new one whilst DD2 and I sat on the sofa and snuffled with a heap of books. Will be leaving DD2 home for the day with OH in the hopes of her getting rid of the lurgi asap.

Managed to make 10 jars of chutney and a batch of buns for lunchboxes despite the carpness. Didn't get very far with the Christmas gift list given that I intend to have everything wrapped ready to dispatch in 3 weeks time.

Plans for today involve surviving till bedtime and eradicating the all pervading honk of cat shoite thanks to the cat having a bout of the runs on the fireplace which has baked on v. nicely overnight so that nothing short of oven cleaner and a scouring pad is likely to shift it. Hope DD2 is over the pukey stage cos otherwise today will be unbearable.

And so at 7:45am as we were running out of the house, late as usual, the cat decided to play football with the slow cooker using a couple of wine glasses as defenders, neither of whom were up to the task. Glass and shards of pot everywhere. Needless to say we were very very late but the gods of karmic law intervened and the alarm went off at some point in the wee small hours so the boss was in anyway. Means I need to source a new slow cooker at some point in the near future. Rather fortuitously I've sold another book on Amazon for about a tenner profit so this will end up going towards it.

DD2 appears to be feeling muchly improved which is just as well as she'd end up spending most of the morning in school today regardless. Its the first of many meet and greets.

Have the joys of evening tours of high schools to look forward to too as we attempt to select a school for DD1. The idea of an hour and a hlaf round trip each morning to do the school run before work does not fill me with enthusiasm. Most of the schools are a nightmare to get to from here. Even the closest one involves taking two buses, one in completely the wrong direction after a half hour walk to the nearest bus stop, the one with buses commencing at 9:30am. If she makes it as far as the village centre she can get the school bus but equally by walking in the opposite direction she'd be 2/3rds of the way to the school .... which is in the next county and requires tons of paperwork because of this. Meh. The alternative is to take her to school with me each day where she would be on a main bus route to three other schools. What a palaver.

OH still hasn't booked flights for this weekends jaunt and although he knows whoch nights hes due into hotels he doesn't know what days hes working which is the difference between a 6am flight and a 9pm flight both days. Would allow me to make some sort of plan if I had the vaguest of vague ideas what was going on.

Seem to be in a really whingy whiny frame of mind at the mo. All the really irrelevant stupid things are driving me nuts. Need to give myself a metaphorical kick up the backside asap.

Also, Asda had a slow cooker for under a tenner last time I was in there. I suppose it depends how sexy you need your slow cooker to be :D

Argos had some really good offers on slow cookers last week. I would love one but as a vegetarian there are only so many recipes you can put in a slow cooker.
Loving the sound of the new car. Glad that you are enjoying it.

I can live without sexy.... but I need it to be huge enough to wedge a whole cockerel in because I still have a freezer full of the things. Am vaguley tempted with a 6 litre as it would make batch cookking easier but am also wondering if this is the universe's way of telling me I'm destined for a Remoska... all apart from the price tag.

Meanwhile the doom and gloom continues having discovered the governmental plans to axe child benefit. !!!!!!. Still thats a whole three years away. They could well change their minds by then.

    Jings...£120?????

I have heard people rave about them though and if you use it a lot it would be worth the money. A slow cooker is a sh!tload cheaper though :D

Ugh. And so begins another snot filled day. Could quite happily stay in bed and feel sorry for myself whilst watching reruns of Fraggle Rock and the Muppet Show. Sadly though I have to go to work. Fortunately not for long as I can get away with escaping at 9am. Its internal audit day so the sooner I'm out of there the better for everyones sanity.

Spent yesterday pottering around and randomly chucking stuff out. Kitchen looks a whole lot better. Shame about the rest of the house.

OHs flights are booked. Didn't get any choice in it in the end as there were only three seat left on Sundays flights and since they were all on the same plane it was irrelevant when work wanted him to fly out. At least the DDs and I know whats going on.

End of year mortgage statement arrived. It doesn't make for pretty reading. The pretty picture shows a v. nice downhill slope rapidly followed by a steep uphill climb ending up pretty much where we were 12 months ago with a v. hefty credit card bill to add to it att he end of this month. Feels like the past year has been for nothing... although I do have a v. shiny motor parked on the drive which is still sheer bliss to drive. Have filled it with classical music and now sit cocooned in a bubble of lovelliness till I oipen the doors and begin my assault on the world. Tis also working wonders for the Music Magpie pile as its pointless giving shelf space to anything I can't tolerate in the car and haven't listened to in the house in three or more years. I will reduce the carp to a managable level one way or another.

Bag2school bags have arrived so I have a week in which to fill those and dump them at school. Going to work on the theory that if we chuck a bag each plus one of bedding thats five bags less stuff cluttering up the place. Will definately need to go clothes shopping soon though as things are getting desperate. By things I mean t-shirts suitable for school that don't have holes in. Am not allowed to wear Tiny Pen!s ones, nor Unlucky Fried Kittens or those which read Phuq in sparkly lettering. Beer ads are also frowned upon. Its as if my entire 1990s student wardrobe in unsuited to modern life.... I'm stuck in a timewarp. May well be taking Souk08 up on her professional shopping services because theres clearly no way I can do it on my own.

2 loads of laundry retrieved from DD2s floor and 1 bag of stuff chucked. Hopefully now I can get close enough to her drawers to clear out the stuff thats too small for her.

Have this feeling of De ja vu... like its only a couple of months since I did this self same thing. Oooh I know perhaps thats because it is only a couple of months since I did this. Meh. Why are children and OHs sooooo untidy?

and so, in the time honoured tradition of those who leave everything to the last possible minute, I have 5 dozen buns in or about to go in the oven for today is my day to feed the gannets in the staffroom. Was too knackered to even contemplate it last night. Did briefly toy with purchasing them in the village shop but changed my mind when I realised this would set me back the better part of £20. Now hoping that these will cook and cool remarkably quickly without burning whilst I'm in the shower. And to think I was trying to be more organised.
