I also had to pay for travelodge on line. I clicked visa debit it did not accept the card. I clicked on just Visa and tried again and it worked. Only problem then got charged £2 fee. No fee for visa debit.

If your co-op card starts 450875 then you should have selected visa electron and it will go through. No Charge.

I've only ever had a problem at Tesco pay at the Pump and when I wanted to pay something over the phone to an insurance company
other than that had the account for 12 months with no problems

  • Sorry I've not been on here for ages - life's been hectic!

I've had problems trying to pay for concert tickets at the venue with my "Visa" card. Not tried Ticketmaster yet.

Also Kwik-fit as already mentioned don't accept. Didn't realise this until I tried to pay for 2 new tyres last week and had to persuade them to let me drive to the nearest cash machine - I felt very embarrased!

I've noticed on various till reciepts when I've paid with my card that some say Visa and others still say Electron.

Mine is the new type - definitely supposed to be classed as a Visa :(

I'm so fed up with my visa debit from the Coop. I shop online quite a bit but like to search for bargains, this means that smaller estores have the better prices and smaller delivery charges. If they don't accept paypal 9 times out of 10 I can't buy because of the visa debit aka electron... when I'm discharged off to Barclays I go. Shame too because in every other aspect The Cooperative Bank is spot on for me.

Its not the co-ops fault - its down to the companies to update the software in there machines

Like I say only ever had 2 problems and I do loads of shopping on line as I can't get to the shops on my own

What I can't understand is why there's the problem anyway though. If Barclays can issue a basic account with a card that works every where why does the Coop issue a card that is still seen as an electron.

I understand it's down to the BIN number and it's upto individual stores to 'sort that out'. I suppose, like everything it's down to personal choice, and If I wasn't so keen on tracking down that bargain and shopped in bigger more well known stores I doubt I would have a problm either.

Hi MicheH my first choice would have been barclays was with them for years and years never had a problem.
But I moved back from the south to the north 10 years ago and someone went in the branch in the south and took all my wages out saying they were me. I had evidence that i clocked in at work in the North everything but they still wouldn't give me my money back as they said I could have drove down there (4 -5 hours drive) after clocking in to withdraw the money in the afternoon!
Lucky I was paid weekly but they took £300 as they took my OD too :(

To right - which is a shame because up to that point they were the best bank I'd ever been with!

The only issue I have with the co-op is my card, and if my mortgage wasnt with an intermediatry subsidery of the co-op, i would probably move to barclays after discharge too!!! But seen as it is, then ill stay with them. But no too many major problems with the card so far, and iv been with them since Jan this year.
