Alex, KeithP's right go Ask lisa or search a train fare website it will show the cheapest return as £39.60 (2x £19.60 advance singles) just remember its a busy and expensive time to travel around Xmas/New Year.

You could try spliting at London, Reading or Didcot but I doubt you would get it any cheaper.

And buy your tickets from any train companies' website or a Railway station to avoid trainline/raileasy's booking/card fees

I'm trying to find the cheapest priced return from Kirkcaldy to Exeter St Davids,traveling on Monday 11th January after 11 a.m and returning on Sunday 24th January after 11 a.m. The cheapest I can seem to find is around £157 for a return fair,if anyone knows of any fares that are cheaper it would be appreciated.

Advance Singles can reduce that price.

From the East Coast Trains website:

11 Jan dep Kirkcaldy 16:19, arr Exeter St.Davids 00:53 (next day). Advance Single = £68.00.

24 Jan dep Exeter St.Davids 11:23, arr Kirkcaldy 19:59. Advance Single = £37.50.

So total trip = £105.50.

If you could depart at 05:53 the outward leg, the fare could be reduced to £37.50.

Try this, prices from East coast trains;

Kirkcauldy to London Kx 11th Jan12:00 £17 Advance single
London Pad to Exeter st Davids 11th Jan 19:45 £12 Advance single

Exeter st Davids to Kirkcauldy 24th Jan 11:23 £37 Advance single

Total £66 Return + £4 London underground transfer

There are other trains times out of London Pad or London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids at different prices but give yourself plenty of time to get accross London at rush hour and if your train from Edinburgh is late.

You could also split the return via London aswell if you want to save more and have a look at Megatrain for cheap tickets London Waterloo to Exeter

you can fly easyjet edinburgh to bristol for £50 return with good flights, less stress, taking an hour and half.
or for single from cardiff to edinburgh with bmi for £25 afternoon flight
just need to sort out trains/buses....megatrain
