  • Hi,
A few friends and I are trying to get from Yate/Bristol Parkway (preferably Yate though) to Cardiff for as cheaply as possible on a Sunday. Depending on who's available there should be around 5-8 of us.
The cheapest we can find is £9.40 return, which is a bit out of our price range, being poor 6th Form Students :(
Just wondering if there's anything cheaper or any deals available that could bring it down a bit. From what I've seen there's not much hope, but it's always worth a try, right? ;D

    Hello.
Another question is my dad has to be in Harrow on 14/12/2009 for a funeral. Can somebody tell me if you can buy an off peak travelcard for London before he gets to Baker street as he only has 10 mins to get to the station and buy a ticket and get hir train to Harrow.I thought it may be easier to buy the ticket in advance online and pick it up at one of the machines at the station before he travels.
    Thank you.
    Why go via London?
An Off Peak Day Return from Leagrave to Harrow and Wealdstone changing at St.Albans and Watford Junction is only £18.00.
It does involve a short walk between St.Albans (City) station and St.Albans Abbey station. Less than one mile, map and details are here.

One possibility might be National Express coach from Bristol (Marlborough Street Bus Stn) to Cardiff from £2.00 each way. But the cost of getting to central Bristol (and the hastle) may well mean that your £9.40 Off Peak Day Return from either Yate or Bristol Parkway is the best option.

Try GroupSave. Four adults travel for the price of two.

just a quick question (sorry if wrong thread) on rail travel.
i need to drop my kid off to the midlands to stay with friends. Can ticket system allow a child ticket to be issued as 1xchild using a rail card? (although an adult will be travelling it works out cheaper as i need a open return and child only needs a 1 way ticket).

Are you talking about a Family and Friends Railcard?

If so, a child must travel with an adult at all times.
  • You can buy a one day travelcard from leagrave which will cover your trip out to Harrow

    No.
I mean i am taking my kid to some friends house at xmas time. I am taking him down them coming straight back on next train.
Outwards journey - 1 adults and 1 child
    return 1 adult only
it was a few pounds cheaper if book an 1x adult open return (in case i am delayed so i can get any train back) and book a single child outward (using railcard) as two bookings, is this allowed?

Does anyone know of any discount code on top or can get the fare any cheaper, my parents are over 70 but have no railcard and would not use one regularly.

Please tell us what sort of railcard you do have then.
Sorry. I'm being a bit dim today. I cannot understand what sort of railcard you have... particularly now that you have told us that it isn't a Family and Friends Railcard... which is the only one relevent for a child.

You can buy an Anytime Day Return or an Off Peak Day Return for the adult, to give you the flexibility you want, and a Single (Anytime or Off Peak depending on time of day) for the child.

I cannot think of anyway that you can use a railcard to buy the child's ticket.

sorry i do have a family railcard...thought i mentioned that, oops.
i tried trainline and it would let me proceed to book 1xchild only for a single journey with railcard!
