sorry i do have a family railcard...thought i mentioned that, oops.
i tried trainline and it would let me proceed to book 1xchild only for a single journey with railcard!
Then read the Railcard Terms and Conditions.
    Where the first sentence says...
To use your Family & Friends Railcard, your group must contain at least one named cardholder and at least one child aged between 5 and 15 years.
Pretty much what I said in post #967

Does anyone know of any discount code on top or can get the fare any cheaper, my parents are over 70 but have no railcard and would not use one regularly.

    Prices from East Coast Trains
You could reduce that fare slightly, to £52.00, by booking through East Midland Trains.

I cannot think of anyway that you can use a railcard to buy the child's ticket.
Sorry, I have mislead you there.

Of course you can use the railcard to buy a single ticket each for both yourself and your child for the outward leg. That will give you 1/3 off the adult and 60% off the child fare.

For the return leg, you will need to buy a ticket without using the railcard.

Remember these tickets can be Advance Singles.

    Thank you for the replies.
Just to clear a few things up about my earlier post.
    1. My dad has 2 options of getting to Chatham and they are going from Leagrave to Chatham by train.
    2. Getting a greenline coach to Victoria as it is free with his bus pass and then a train to Chatham.
The Leagrave station is a few mins walk but getting a greenline he will have to to into Luton and get it there or go to the airport as they only leave 1 an hour from the town.
The coach stops at Finchley road,Baker street and then onto Victoria if thats any help.
These dates are for 18/12/2009 and coming back on 22/12/2009 off peak but as some may know First capital are have driver issues so the trains are not running too well.

The other question in my 1st post was on 14/12/2009 my dad has a funeral in Harrow. He only needs a 1 day off-peak travel card for zone 4-6 as he will be getting a lift to there but his 1st tube or train will be leaving 9:31 so i want to know if he can buy a ticket before he gets to London like sometime this week from a machine at Leagrave station,at the station or online.
    Sorry for the post.

    Sorry for the post.

Ignoring Oyster, a paper travelcard for Zone 2-6 is £5.10. However, I'll use this opportunity to share my top travelcard  tip:-

Southern railway website again, enter "Epsom" to "0035" which is an All Zones Day Travelcard and put in some times for outward and return after 0930. Their discount knocks it down to £4.50. :T
  • Hi. I was just on here checking to see if there were any codes for getting money off train travel or upgrading for free and couldn't see any. However, just booked my Birmingham to London return journey with the trainline and it's only £17 if you go with the slow 'london midland service (2hours 25 mins). I clicked the 'slower routes may be cheaper' button and it actually worked for once. Hope this helps.

P.S if anyone does have any upgrading/ virgin options for this price then that'd be a bonus

Is that a Super Off Peak Return?

If so, it is available direct from London Midland Trains for £15.00.

Avoid The Trainline's fees by booking with a Train Operating Company.

I have just checked at southernrailway.com and nationalrail.co.uk
The cheapest Advance fare is £12
But the cheapest available on that day is £27 on the 0957 and 1157 trains
    and £32 on the 1057

If i buy this ticket from Southern trains and collect it from a ticket machine at my nearest station which is Leagrave say at the weekend will my dad be able to use at Finchley road tube/train station. He is not going till Monday morning and i dont want the barriers not to let him and then he panicks because he will not get to the funeral on time.
The other thing is on the ticket wil say "off-peak travelcard all zones" as if not he might think it's the wrong ticket. He is going to Harrow and then onto Ruislip by car but not sure about getting back so wanted to make sure he has the right travel card just in case he needs it.
