  • Hey there, I need to travel from Haverfordwest to Prestatyn on 30th Dec, preferably not at unsociable hours, and not on journeys over 7 hours, or on those requiring a bus. Anyone be able to help me find cheap train tickets? I have a 16-25 student railcard, cheapest I've found so far is £17.15 but as a student that's still quit a bit!

    Thanks in advance :)

£17.15 Advance single with Railcard looks like the cheapest for your requirements, you can go cheaper £9.90 but you have to leave at 17:23 arrive at 01:06 and its a journey over 7hrs

Hi there, I need to travel from Swindon to Birmingham new street on 28th of Nov before 9am and return after 5pm by train. When I checked thetrainline.com for 3 adults it quoted no less than £67.50. Does anybody has promotional code or could tell me to find cheaper fare? It would be so thankful if anybody could help me.

    Thanks in advance. :)

Problem is lack of trains. You would normally change at Cheltenham, but there are few/no trains from Swindon to Cheltenham that day - they've been diverted via Gloucester to South Wales and connections to Cheltenham are poor or non-existent. Hence you get routed a long way round with higher fares.

A knock on effect of engineering works on the Severn Tunnel

What you might do is get the train to Gloucester, a bus to Cheltenham (frequent and run until late evening) and another train to Birmingham.

The bus and train stations in Gloucester are close - there's a bit of a walk in Cheltenham though

Hmm... But that costs me even more.
    For 3 adults :
    Swindon to Gloucester(Return) - £22.00
Cheltenham to Birmingham (Return) - £40.50
This alone costs me £62.50. Didnt check the bus fare for Gloucester to Cheltenham (Return).
    Doesnt make much difference!!
But thanks for the help anyways. So kind of u. :)

Is there any other way?? Or atleast a promotional code pleaze.. :(

The walkon day return fare Swindon - Gloucester is £7.40 each - so the £22 odd you quote is TOTAL for three people. Haven't checked out your other fares but suspect they are the same.

Doesn't actually look that expensive to me but YMMV

I'd guess the bus fare at less than a fiver each return but ICBW. If your original quote was also for 3 then maybe stick with it rather than faff about with the bus - I took it as each.

As dzug says. And don't buy at thetrainline will you? Avoid their fees.
  • Hi everyone,

I'm hoping you might be able to help me.

I need to book train tickets for my dad as cheaply as poss for xmas of all times.

Details are London King's 22/23rd of December to Durham ( needs to be arriving in Durham after 7pm, but he refuses to do night trains ) .
Returning on 3rd Jan any time but again needs to be arriving in London at a reasonable hour.

He doesn't have a rail card but he does have the London wide freedom pass, will that make a diffence?

Best fare i can find so far is £62.00 return, which is still quite high for him to pay ( he's a pensioner) and i'm hoping since it's nearly xmas i can get it a bit cheaper?

Have you tried singles each way? A senior railcard would bring the price down too.

    Thanks for the reply.

Those are two singles and I wasn't sure if paying £26 for a senior rail card would make se3nse being that the tickets are £62.. something worth looking into>?
