If you book on the East Midlands trains site you may get it £1 a head each way cheaper (I've only checked outward and there's a £21 a head single)
A railcard (they'd need one each) would not pay for itself on this journey - a second, similar journey would bring it into profit.0 -
Hi everyone,
I'm hoping you might be able to help me.
I need to book train tickets for my dad as cheaply as poss for xmas of all times.
Details are London King's 22/23rd of December to Durham ( needs to be arriving in Durham after 7pm, but he refuses to do night trains ) .
Returning on 3rd Jan any time but again needs to be arriving in London at a reasonable hour.
He doesn't have a rail card but he does have the London wide freedom pass, will that make a diffence?
Best fare i can find so far is £62.00 return, which is still quite high for him to pay ( he's a pensioner) and i'm hoping since it's nearly xmas i can get it a bit cheaper?
Only about 12 miles between the two, and if final destination is in that direction...
An Anytime Senior Return, valid on Grand Central Trains ONLY and available to customers aged 60 or over, from Kings Cross to Sunderland is only £50.50.

Could London to Sunderland be a possibility?

hi,
im looking for help to find my friend a sensibly priced train fare from king's cross to newcastle over christmas.
he wants to leave on dec 23rd and come back 28th/ 29th. he wants to get the last train out on the 23rd (about 5.30) because he runs his own business, but the cheapest i can find is about £160 return, so im sure he would be happy to finish a few hours earlier if it would save him money.
Any suggestions or help gratefully received

A Super Off Peak Return is "only" £105.00.
Leaving as late as 10pm on 23 Dec, returning either 28 or 29Dec.
How about...
Off Peak return from Kings Cross to Sunderland, via Grand Central Trains only, at £71.00, then a Anytime Single Sunderland to Newcastle at £2.90 each way.
Can leave London at 19:18 on 23rd, and a choice of four trains from Sunderland on each of 28 or 29 Dec.

Quidco have confirmed to me that the £5 virgin trains offer has been pulled off...despite being live for less than 1 week. real shame.0

Thanks KeithP
By looking on the East coast train site & splitting the fares - i managed to get it down to about £60 !!
As ive just noticed somebody else saying - dont use thetrainline if you are after the cheapest fares.

Hello.
My dad is going to Chatham for a few days on 18/12/2009 and returning on 22/12/2009.
My questions are,
1. train from Leagrave to Chatham via London,
2. a train from London Victoria to Chatham,
My dad is 68 and he can get a Greenline coach from Luton to Victoria for free on his bus pass but only leaving at 10 am.The train station is a 5-10 minute walk as to get a coach is 2 connections and about 45 mins travel.
He can leave after 9:30 am and i would like to know what is the cheapest for him, split tickets or just pay the price which when i checked was £36 return from Leagrave and £22 return from Victoria.
Another question is my dad has to be in Harrow on 14/12/2009 for a funeral. Can somebody tell me if you can buy an off peak travelcard for London before he gets to Baker street as he only has 10 mins to get to the station and buy a ticket and get hir train to Harrow.I thought it may be easier to buy the ticket in advance online and pick it up at one of the machines at the station before he travels.
Thank you.0
