    I've heard that some Johnson's Press local newspapers are offering vouchers for cheap train tickets. Unfortunately none of my local newspapers are doing them, Yorkshire Press and a Newcastle paper I think are, and possibly others. Does any forum member have access to vouchers they won't be using. I would be most grateful to receive them as I'd love to visit my Grandson in Scotland. Otherwise can anyone help with how to find the best price travelling from Grantham to Dundee any Thursday or Friday returning on the Monday or Tuesday giving me 4 nights in Scotland. Thank you.

    Can't help much with the Newspaper vouchers, but with your trip to Scotland the earlier you book the cheaper it is , use this website to see when the cheap advance singles are released.

    If you buy from the East coast website you can get Advance Singles (25th March out, return 29th March) from £16.45 (£32.90 return) which includes a 10% discount.

    You did say Grandson and not wanting to sound cheeky but do you qualify for a senior railcard, if you plan to do this journey frequently it would be worth while getting one

    Thanks for your advice LivingtheDream. All the fares at £16 seem to have gone for the 25th March but the next price up is £24 which isn't too bad. I'll probably either book that or look at fares for later on to get the cheaper deal. No, you're not being cheeky suggesting I might be able to get a senior rail card. I will be able to after May but don't really expect to be travelling by train many times per year.

    Thanx, but have a look at this thread;

    maybe a phone call to your grandson to see if can get hold of the paper cos IIRC you require a voucher from last Monday/Tuesday' Scotsman and to find out how to apply?
    But from this website info you could be able to travel Grantham to Dundee for £11.50 each way

    Hi,

    I am trying to book some train tickets to take my two children to see my Mum in Somerset but have only budgeted £50 and wondered if you guys could help.

    The jouney is Coventry to Templecombe or Castle Cary

    I want to go on Friday 5th Feb and be there before 5pm. I plan on returning on feb 8th. I can be fexible by a day if it saves me a decent amount of money.

    On of my children is only 3 so I don't think I have to pay for seat so it would be 1 adult one child with a family rail card.

    Assuming you have the railcard already, your budget is easily achievable.

    A superoffpeak return from Coventry to Castle Cary is £44.80 for one adult and one child with a railcard (you don't need to count the 3YO)

    This is via Reading (and on some trains Bath as well) and can be bought on the day. It's valid 'super' off peak, which normally means late morning to mid afternoon and mid evening onwards. I don't know the precise times for this route, but the 1125 and 1225 out are both OK as is the 1245 back

    You might be able to beat that fare with advance singles, splitting at reading - but I doubt it
  • Some Good News for all the people living in Scotland, First Scotrail and the Scottish Daily Record/Sunday Mail have team up to offer travel anywhere in Scotland for £15 return and 1 child can travel free at the same time.

    Check this link out First Scotrail Offer but basically all you need to do to take advantage of this superb offer you must collect a booking form and 3 differently numbered tokens from the Daily Record and Sunday Mail available between 24 and 28 January 2010.

    Time to do that trip up to the Kyle of Lockalsh
