MOH and I need to travel from London to Leeds some time during March.
What lines / train companies must I look for ? I saw East Coast in previous posts - is that the only one ?
Can I buy split tickets as that is often recommended ?
Sorry to sound so dumb but last travelled by train when it was British Rail and am not used to all the different train lines.
Thanks in advance for replies and advice.

For London - Leeds you can also go by East Midlands - rather slower and may or may not be cheaper. Usually with a change at Sheffield but there is the odd through train. Otherwise East Coast as you say.
It's not a journey where split tickets would normally come into play. Cheap advance tickets for the whole journey is 99% certain your best bet. If you can't get them then it may (and only may) be worth splitting at Peterborough, using the FCC suburban train as far as Peterborough before changing to the East Coast express.0 -
Another option is to use Grand Central from London Kings Cross to Bradford and take a local train between Bradford and Leeds. It is slower, but until 13th March they have an offer of only £25 return between London and Bradford.
http://www.grandcentralrail.co.uk/25poundreturn.htmlDid you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0 -
Travelling to and from Oxford and London. Get a great deal when you travel by train. Grab one of your tickets for just £1, £3, or £5 for single journey from Oxford to London, or London to Oxford.
No queues - no hassle! Print your ticket at home or send to your mobile phone.
Speed into town by train. Average journey time of just 60 minutes!
Book up to 12 weeks in advance, these GR8 train tickets are available for many off peak trains.
Good deal, but remember these are print at home/mobile phone tickets.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Hi all
I have just got a new job and I'm having to commute on trains for the first time. To say that I am amazed by the cost of season tickets is an understatement, lol!
I need to travel in peak times from Chadwell Heath station to Chelmsford with National Express...I have been quoted on their site at approx £2300!!! :0( ....does anyone know of any codes or ways I can reduce this fair, or if there is some way I can spread the cost out monthly with National Express as that is a lot of money for me to pay up front as my new company offers no travel loan scheme!?!
Any help would be much appreciated!!
Thanks in advance all0 -

You may be better off buying a ticket each day - £10 anytime day return on say 230 working days a year is the same as the season.
It works out this way because you are commuting against the flow - the same journey starting in Chelmsford is £14.10, and the season is based on the higher price0 -

An Anytime Return via London with railcard is indeed £265.30.
An Anytime Return via Not London with railcard is a step in the right direction at £141.25.
An Off Peak Return at £70 and some pence* might be considered better if the time restictions meet your needs.
On your dates Advance Singles are available on several trains at £31 or less each way (again with railcard).
*number of pennies differ depending on route.0
