Can we assume those dates are in March, and that it is a 16-25 railcard that you have?

An Anytime Return via London with railcard is indeed £265.30.

An Anytime Return via Not London with railcard is a step in the right direction at £141.25.

An Off Peak Return at £70 and some pence* might be considered better if the time restictions meet your needs.

On your dates Advance Singles are available on several trains at £31 or less each way (again with railcard).

*number of pennies differ depending on route.
Yes wealdroam, I am travelling on 18-20 March with 16-25 railcard.

Thanks so much for your top tips :)
I will go and have another play with the booking system again :T

    Hello,

Is it likely to get any better than £40ish for a return to London from Newcastle on the weekend of 14/15th May? I've had a little go at splitting the tickets but it doesn't seem to get any cheaper. Preferably traveling in the morning of the Saturday but might be able to travel on the Friday evening. Using a Young Persons Railcard.

Thanks in advance for any input!

No. That's the best you're going to get for London to Newcastle for those dates now. If you're not already, booking through EastCoast website gives you an additional discount.
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place

The cheapest i can find for Newcastle - Aberdeen is (with www.eastcoast.co.uk)

    Outward
    Newcastle dep 1326
    Aberdeen arr 1737
    1 adult, 2 kids, F&F railcard £38.85 advance single

This journey can be reduced to £23.20 if you could travel on the 0845 arriving Aberdeen 1303 (splitting ticket at Edinburgh, £13.90 Newcastle-Edinburgh, £9.30 Edinburgh-Aberdeen. This is remaining on the same train but may have to move seats if different ones are reserved).

    Return
    Aberdeen dep 1450
    Newcastle arr 1907
    1 adult, 2 kids, F&F railcard £25.05 advance single

Total cost £63.90 (reduced to £48.25 if travel is possible on the 0845 outwards).

Retford to Huddersfield Anytime day return £17.30 (route: via Sheffield) dep 07:40 arr 09:49
