As a quick note you will be extremely lucky to get from platform 2 to platform 3 at Retford in the 3 minutes given, its the furthest conection and will require a long run.

I need to go from Prestatyn to Ilford this friday-25th march return journey until monday 28th march
I have been trawling all the sites but can't get anything cheaper than £76, is this a good price? I haven't been on a train for years!!!
    Thanks!

£76 is the flexible Off Peak Return fare.

    Consider...
Use Oyster from Ilford to Euston = £3.50 each way.
Travel by London Midland from Euston to Crewe. Takes a bit longer, but Advance Singles are available at £11 out and £8 back.
An Off Peak Return from Crewe to Prestatyn is £19.30 and valid on all trains.

So can be done for £45.30, or another fiver if you don't have an Oyster card.

Remember, with Advance Singles you must travel on the booked train.

    Info from Southern Railway website.

    What railcard?

Can be done using Advance Singles via London for £32.20. That's total return for two people with one 16-25 railcard.

    Details from Southern Railway website.
Click on Select a Route then tick the VWC & CONNECTNS and Via London boxes.

Remember, with Advance Singles you must travel on the booked trains.

Can't get it much cheaper than that, but just want to say that an Advance Single is available for the same price leaving Glossop at 06:38 which may help by avoiding the over ten mile drive to Stockport.
  • Hi all

Just wondering if someone can help. I'm considering a last minute jaunt from Barrow-in-Furness to London on Friday and returning Sunday. Obviously the tickets for this don't run cheap! I could potentially get myself to Lancaster on the Friday and set off from there and that'd keep me on the Virgin Trains network.

    Any ideas?

If I recall, there is Engineering Work on the Barrow->Lancaster stretch so you might be better off driving to Lancaster anyway.

Might affect sales of advance tickets in that they wont release them because of the disruption.
