Thank you sooooo much for helping me out. Really appreciate it. Taking my hubby to London as a surprise for his 40th.

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me out? I'm looking to book 2 adult train tickets for me and the hubby from Liverpool to London (Waterloo) preferably. Trying to travel 1st/2nd/3rd March to return same day. Hoping to leave L.pool morning time and leave London after 6pm.
I've tried qjump and the train line and getting around £150. Was just wondering if anyone knew of any discounts or cheaper fares?
    Any help is really appreciated.

If you found a cheap fare there, you can do the 9pm train from London Euston to Liverpool Lime street for £5 each through megatrain. That train is usally quiet too. It gets you in to Liverpool at 11:30, though, we often go from Runcorn instead, as it saves 20 minutes onthe train and the parking at the station is cheaper (or free if you park on one of the orads outside the station) and easier.

  • Does anyone know if the London Midland offer can be used in conjunction with Family and Friends ?, also do they stop at every station ?.

Basically i'm going to London from Crewe on the 24th Feb. There will be myself and 2 kids (5 and 8). I have a family and friends card but to get a fast virgin train it's just under £25, whereas a London Midland (through the trainline) is just over £8 but that train takes over 3 hours !!. I'm trying to do this journey as cheaply as possible, but am not sure spending over 3 hours on a slow train with 2 young kids is advisable ?.

I would appreciate any help or advice on this, i've tried looking at all the different websites and also at journey splitting, but aside from the very cheap but slow train, there don't appear to be any other options.

    Thanks in advance.

The London Midland great escape isn't railcard discountable, just a flat fare £10 ad, £5 ch.

The London Midland service from Crewe - London whilst not being all stops does call at 15 stations en-route, where as the Virgin service are non stop or 1 stop.

As you state cheap fares are available for both operators services, as you haven't mentioned a time i've listed the cheapest fares with both operators.

You have to weigh up time spent on train for cheapest fare or £16 more for 1 1/2 hours less on train.

Cheapest fares i have found for each operator are (1 ad, 2 ch F+F r/c)
dep Crewe, Arr London, Fare, Operator
    1133
    1449
    £8.30, LM
    1156
    1338
    £24.40, VT
    1233
    1549
    £8.30, LM
    1333
    1649
    £8.30, LM
    1356
    1538
    £24.40, VT
    1433
    1749
    £8.30, LM
    1456
    1638
    £24.40, VT
    1533
    1849
    £8.30, LM
    1633
    1950
    £8.30, LM
    1733
    2049
    £8.30, LM
    2029
    2212
    £24.40, VT
    2041
    2222
    £24.40, VT

    LM = London Midland
    VT = Virgin Trains

ALSO DON'T USE TRAINLINE OR OTHER 3RD PARTY SITES AS THESE CHARGE YOU BOOKING FEES AND/OR DELIVERY.
    Use a site such as
    www.eastcoast.co.uk
    www.londonmidland.com
    www.southernrailway.com

Most operator sites don't charge booking/delivery fees

    An alternative could be

Crewe-Birmingham New Street - lots of journeys available for £7.30 for the group (advance single),
Birmingham-London Euston lots of journeys available for £15.60 with Virgin (advance single).

Personally its added hassle for a saving of £1.50.

Only if the departure station has collection facilities and you choose not to use that facility.

Thats why i said delivery fees and not pick up at station or print at home fees

But the point that you seem to have failed to grasp is that East Coast Trains do not always charge delivery fees, even if they provide delivery.

If there is no collection facility available, then no delivery fee is charged.

    And here is the link.

    Hi Guys,

Hardly ever use a train, so a bit of a chump in this area, basically we need to get to Wembly Central by 3ish on saturday from Norwich - I have used trainline and the cheapest I can see is £30 for 2 return tickets which seems reasonble, but our end destination is close to wembly Park tube station, so seems we will need to catch the tube from Wembly central to Wembly park tube - are there any better deals or discount codes that anyone could help me with?
