Well Dunbar Berwick Alnmouth and Morpeth are the stations. Of these Berwick is the only one at which most trains stop so it would be the one to try first.

Super off peak return is £44.30. Splitting at Berwick as per dzug1's suggestion £20.40 + £20.40 = £40.80.

    £3.50 saved.

I need to book the 05.55am train from Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen for the 31st August. However, the Advance Single ticket was intermittently becoming available and unavailable in the past couple of days.

The Advance Single ticket hasn't been available today. Anyone have any advice or promotional codes, etc?

If I can't find any way to get the advance single, I will book it at full price but I want to see if I can get it cheaper somehow first.

Anyone have any idea why it only becomes available sometimes?
  • Dzug's answered your question here the only other thing you could try is to split at Perth or Dundee.

Using advance singles I can see a sub £80 return 14-18 October. 1223 departure each way

You may be eligible for a railcard - see

    Other things worth looking at:

Megatrain to London, FGW to Plymouth

Megatrain to London, megatrain to Exeter, normal train to Plymouth (a bit slow this one)

Split ticketing at any or all of Derby Cheltenham Bristol Exeter might work

I am a total novice at rail travel. Looking to get from Carlisle to London and back 27/10-31/10 for 2 adult 1 17yo no railcards or anything.

I estimate it would cost me £160ish in petrol to take the car.

Can we do it cheaper by rail?

Can anyone explain how to do it in words of one syllable?

    Thanks in advance.
    I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.

Using flexible Off Peak Return tickets it can be done for £184 return.

If you are prepared to travel on booked trains, it can be done for £84 return on your dates. (£28 out and £56 back).

Those are total prices for two adults return.

    Info from East Coast Trains.

Can't find anything near those prices, and my 17yo is classed as an adult too, so need 3 adults. Best I can see is £42 out and £92 back and out is arriving around 2300 and back at 0900.

    Total confused.

Ok... sorry totally overlooked 17yo. Multiply my earlier prices by 1.5.

    27Oct
Dep Carlisle 19:49, arr Euston 23:38. Advance Singles = £42.00.
    or for another 50p each...
Dep Carlisle 18:29, arr Euston 22:22. Advance Singles = £43.50.

    31Oct
Dep Euston 19:25, arr Carlisle 22:51. Advance Singles = £84.00.

Total return for three adults = £126.00.
