Concentrating on the Virgin route (change at Birmingham New Street) I checked splitting at all the places on that. Lancaster seems to be the winner.
Taunton->(Birmingham New St)->Lancaster->Edinburgh: £95.50 + £26.90 = £122.40
Taunton->(Birmingham New St)->Preston->Lancaster->Edinburgh: £83.00 + £7.00 + £26.90 = £116.900 -
Hey everyone,
I'm going to Dorset on Friday 20th August and I'm trying to book a train from London after work, leaving anytime 5-7pm ish. I can either take a train to Didcot and get a lift, or take one to Gillingham.
The cheapest prices I can find so far using a network railcard are:
London to Didcot - £15.85
London to Gillingham - £24.95
Just wondered if anyone knows of any tricks/promos to get the price down on either journey?
Many thanks0 -

If you can leave London at 15:50 or 21:20, an Advance Single to Gillingham can be had for £15.00 with railcard.0 -
Thanks miller, I'll look into the slow train.
Thanks wealdroam, I can't get the mid afternoon train and I saw the cheaper prices for the later trains. It's a tough call between saving the sheckels and losing time on the Friday evening by waiting for a later train!
Just looking for the magic solution of a trick/code etc that meant I could travel when I wanted for less money!0 -

I used East Coast Trains website, but other websites should give similar information.
On the date in question, 20 August, there are direct trains departing London Waterloo for Gillingham (Dorset) at 07:10, 13:50, 15:50 and 21:20 where an Advance Single is currently available for £15.00 when using a Network Railcard.0 -
Hi guys
I'm going to a friend's birthday on Saturday and I need to save as much money as possible at the moment ('luckily' I have the excuse of a wisdom tooth operation to give me an excuse not to drink)
I'm to train ticketing splitting but I've given it a go. I need to travel to Exeter St Davids from Bristol Temple Meads this Saturday (14th) and return on the same day. I would prefer to arrive before 12 and leave after 8pm.
I have experimented with ticket splitting and by doing Bristol - Taunton then Taunton - Exeter, both returns, I can get it at about £19.90.
Would anyone a bit more experienced be able to have a look for me and see if they can get it any cheaper?
Grateful for any help and thanks in advanceStill trying to find my way around the forum...0 -

Unless there are any advance tickets left that's the cheapest you will do it. On a quick glance there aren't any but I didn't check alll day0
