Where did £15.85 come from?
I used East Coast Trains website, but other websites should give similar information.
On the date in question, 20 August, there are direct trains departing London Waterloo for Gillingham (Dorset) at 07:10, 13:50, 15:50 and 21:20 where an Advance Single is currently available for £15.00 when using a Network Railcard.
I think he was on about Liverpool London
The tickets may be easier to find on the London Midland site

When you have your results on the London Midland site click 'show slower routes' then 'London Midland trains only'0 -

I would avoid the slow, rush hour London to Didcot trains like the plague unless you are going to be saving £10+. They are usually 4 coaches long, with the same number of passengers trying to board as board the 8 coach fast trains so you have to have super powers to get a seat. For the sake of £2, get the fast train (45 minutes compared to about 80 minutes) - your sanity will thank you for it!!0 -
Hi folks
I'm travelling to York from Larbert on 21/08/10 and travelling back on 22/08/10. We were going to be driving, but decided last minute to go by train. I'm not having much luck getting the tickets for less than £140 total (that's 2 sets of singles) - can anyone help me get the cost a bit lower?
We're hoping to leave Larbert at 10ish on 21/08 and leave York after 5pm on 22/08.
We don't have any railcards or anything like that.

I'm travelling to York from Larbert on 21/08/10 and travelling back on 22/08/10.
For reference the full price fare (no splitting) and without having to travel on booked trains is £155.40 (for 2 people).
Edit: out of interest I worked it out to be around £70 of petrol for the round trip.0 -
I'm looking to book train for 2 from Newcastle to London 29 October and return 1 Nov. Want to leave after 9.30am and leave London after 12noon. Only thing is my partner needs to wait a week for his boss to authorise his hold before I can book and in the last couple of days the cost has gone up. Does it ever come back down again? Also, I tried splitting the route but no price saving. Any other cost cutting tips? I have tried Rail Easy, Thetrainline and National Rail and even tried taking the route onto a Manchester virgin train but no reduction in price there.
Thanks

I'm surprised the cost has gone up when the cheap fares (allegedly) aren't even there yet. ( http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/booking_horizons.html ) It does say last updated last Friday though
Once they are there they are unlikely to go down again - not impossible with glitches in the system but unusual
Try Grand Central Trains from Sunderland if cheap tickets don't appear - you can buy them on the day at the same price. About £85 return including getting to Sunderland.0 -
I'm looking to book Newcastle-Edinburgh return. I doubt it, but does anyone know of any possible good splitting points?0
