Looking at Liverpool-Durham 26 August 2010, 1 adult, 1 x17 year old, return same day, visiting the uni there.

We need to change at either Manchester or York so have been looking at York. Been on East Coast website and think it works out cheaper to do it as split singles. It seems to be working out more to get a 16-25 railcard as I have to include the cost of that to the saving as my daughter wouldn't use it much after this trip.

The problem is that the Liverpool - York is coming out at £10.50 for one person:Liverpool Lime Street, 08:22 Destination:York, 10:35 however when I put in two adults the same journey is £30, I really do want to get us seats together. I have put it in my basket as two trips for one person (same journey) and when I start to process the booking it will allocate me seats for one of the bookings but not the other for some strange reason.

Also do you think its wise to pay a bit more for the York-Durham return section and get an open return should I find we finish our trip to Durham early or the Liverpool-York train gets in a bit late?

    Hope this makes sense :o

Does anyone know of how to get cheaper rail tickets (than advertised on trainline etc). Any promotions on at the moment I haven't heard about? I need to get from Newcastle to Aberdeen in August but don't fancy driving and the only flights seem to be BA (£120+).

    Thanks :P

Call Eastcoast on 08457225 225 or go to the train station and book a ticket in advance as its cheaper when you book in advance

Coolbadmo, why did you bother to post that?

Daveyok made his request nearly six years ago.

I think £60.25 is the cheapest you will get.

At least once upon a time the thread only contained requests for codes rather than random train journey questions.

Super Off Peak Single dep Euston 20:03, arr Birmingham New Street 21:25 = £10:90 with railcard. Virgin Trains. No need to buy in advance.

Now if you can be a bit flexible, dep Euston 19:54, arr Birmingham NS 22:16 = £3.95 with railcard. London Midland Trains. Advance Single - must travel on booked train.

    Info from East Coast Trains.
  • Hi folks,

Hoping someone can help me with a cheap deal from London to York and back the coming bank holiday weekend at the end of August.

I know demand is likely to be high for the bank holiday so I'm trying to be flexible in the hope that that might save me a few quid! Ideally I want to stay for 2 nights, either travelling Thursday (26th) evening or Friday (27th) morning, returning either Saturday or Sunday evening.

The cheapest I've found so far is around £50, on East Coast Trains. I'm travelling on my own, haven't got a railcard, and am not too fussy about changing/where in London I go from.

Thanks so much in advance if anyone's heard of anything!

(Sorry if anyone's read this twice - I post in the Tips on Cheap Train Travel too as I know everyone has their favourites of which bits they check! )

    You could try splitting at Sheffield;

York to Sheffield advance singles from £6
Sheffield to London St P advance singles from £11

    So return for £34

Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to change trains at Sheffield
