But I can see one there at £103.00.
Also a 10% discount is available for Family and Friends, Senior and Disabled Railcard holders. No worth getting a card specially though.0 -

I'm traveling one way on night of 16/6/10.this Wednesday...
The price Ive found is £140.Im travelling on my own are there any promotion codes or rail cards I can buy to get the price down........quick advice appreciated as need to book ASAP
EDITED : oops got my !!!! ahead of my head...
Sorry: almost no chance. In the summer time the Fort William sleeper sells out FAR in advance. Your best bet might be to fly to Prestwick and take a train from there (half price anywhere in Scotland for Ryanair passengers)0 -
Could some one help me out with this journey please?
4 adults, 2 kids, 1 friends and family railcard Sheffield to Truro- out Fri 6th Aug, return Fri 13th Aug. To buy singles it works out at a total of £305.40. I'm wondering if splitting the journey at Exeter or Plymouth would be worthwhile and if this is the case what would happen if the 1st train was delayed- in the worst case scenario what would the buy on the day cost be for tickets Exeter to Truro.
Many thanks in advance0 -
Given that you are getting cheap advance singles anyway it is unlikely (though not impossible) that splitting will result in a cheaper set of singles. To find out just price the journeys.
Edit - given that Sheffield to wherever is Cross Country (who are not generous with advance fares) and wherever to Truro is FGW (who are fairly generous) it probably IS worth investigating splits
To save aggro on delayed trains, try for through trains first of all, then for example try splitting at Exeter where the journey requires a change at Plymouth
It may also be worth while travelling via London and splitting there -OTH with kids you may prefer not to. Look at megatrain from Sheffield to London and vv if you do this..0 -

I have been playing about with cross country and i think i can get an off peak return Sheffield to Exeter for £311.40 and then single Exter to Truro at 14.09 for £18.10. Tottalling £347.60. Does this sound ok? or would i be better waiting a while to see if it gets cheaper 12 weeks in advance?Definitely wait until the cheap tickets become available.
As an example... using dates of 14 May out and 21 May back...
Dep Sheffield 06:50, arr Exeter St Davids 10:46. Advance Singles = £87.60.
Dep Exeter St D 11:19, arr Truro 13:55. Advance Singles = £18.10.
Dep Truro 13:33, arr Exeter St D 16:00. Advance Singles = £18.10.
Dep Exeter St D 16:25, arr Sheffield 20:19. Advance Singles = £87.60.
So that trip can be done for £211.40.
Probably a lot cheaper.
Info from East Coast Trains.
As Dzug and KeithP say, might be worth splitting.0 -

Right i have been attempting to get my head around this- i've sorted my going down journey out £87.60 advance fare Sheffield to Exeter. Then because the advance fares Exeter to Truro have gone i would need off peak single at £32.80 but theres 2 trains for that price after my Exeter arrival time, which follow one another so i am thinking that if i'm delayed or anything i do have a bit of a back up plan there- 23 mins to get the 1st connection or over an hour for the second one.
Now what i'm really stuck with is getting back cos i have to get to Exeter for my £87.60 advance back- now do i book an advance from Truro and wait over an hour at Exeter or do i chance every things on time and go for 20 mins ish connection cos if i miss the Sheffield train i have mucked up big time. Would i have any safeguard booking the advance Truro- Sheffield ticket bearing in mind that i do still have to get the same train- i guess not National rail give that journey as changing at Plymouth- again the waits not long. I don't travel often by rail but when i do everythings to time.0 -

.
Doesn't matter that much - off peak singles are not train specific so they'd be valid for the rest of the day anyway
I'd go for the longer connection on the return journey0 -

Thanks i think i will go ahead and book and have the longer connection time coming back- might have a look and see whats in the immediate vicinity of Exeter St Davids train station- might be that we could get some dinner whilst we are waiting at somewhere cheaper than at the station- might have to do it in relays whilst some one waits with the luggage. I just don't like spending unnessarily and buy buying singles it works out about £75 cheaper which will give us more spending money and it's the same trains. it's just hard work getting my head around it0 -
