Can you use a Network Railcard (or similar) to get a further 1/3 off the discounted fare when you present the voucher at the ticket office?

    Thanks.

According to the Days out guide - Help section it says 'no further discounts for railcard holders'

    Sorry.

  • I'm having a bit of a nightmare trying to get trains from Leeds to Stevenage and back. I'm going to the Sonisphere festival so want to get to Stevenage at about 11am on Sunday 1st August, leaving there to head back to Leeds at about 12pm the following day.

I'm sure I remember it being about £40 per person last year, this time everywhere I look the cheapest I can find for two people is £71 return each or about £90 each if we get singles.

Oh and we don't have any travel cards.
    Any ideas??!

Try splitting at Peterborough - £17.50 each way on advance singles if you choose the right trains - then £19 odd superoffpeak return

The £17.50 may be discounted on the East Coast site - haven't checked

Yes... down to £15.60 from E.C.Trains website.
  • May be of interest to folk on here that that my local train company eastmidlandstrains.co.uk has extended the Best Fare Finder on its website to cover other train companies' routes - now 250 routes in total apparently. :j

This is a good way to find those cheap tickets in my experience - its quicker than searching trains at different times.

Like most train companies' own websites, EMT don't charge a booking fee either.

Hope someone can help and thanks in advance if you can

I am hoping to travel to Cardiff from Leeds on Friday16th July and returning on Sunday18th July I don't travel by train much so bit of a novice. The cheapest I have found is £35 single advance on the Friday and £27 return single advance on the Sunday with Arriva. Whilst on the arriva site there is an offer for £12 single from Manchester to Cardiff, does anyone know how to find these? Leeds to Manchester return is about £17 so would be quite a saving if I could change at Manchester.

The first time I checked it was £92 so am already pleased with the reductions!!
    January 2020 Grocery challenge £119.45/£200 :)
    February 2020 Grocery challenge £195.22 /£200
March 2020 - gone to pot...
    April 2020 - £339.45/£200
    May 2020 - £194.99/£300

To get the cheap £12 advance singles (Manchester Pic to Cardiff Cen) on those dates you need to set off either early 06.30 or late 20.30 (return time is 08.30 on the 18th) but there lots of other cheap tickets ranging from £18 to £32 one way, which would still give you a good saving.

If you do split at Manchester Pic then give yourself plenty of time to catch your connect there.

Info from East Coast Website, it might be easier to tick the 'trains with no changes' box when searching Manchester Pic to Cardiff Cen

This time last year First Great Western were doing codes for £5 off a ticket booked through their website - has anyone seen a TOC doing this sort of deal at the moment?
