Urrrgh. So tired today. Evil munchkin.
On cars: I am very jealous of all you car-buying types  I bought a Daewoo (surprisingly nice, honest) new 10 years ago, but it is definitely getting close to its last legs now.
I get a car allowance from work (just as a perk, not because I need to drive for work) but I drive so little that it's really not worth giving up the cash to have a company car. I ought to buy something fairly new and more child-friendly and spacious and safe, but I am still hoping forlornly to save up a mortgage deposit at some point... (though I should probably be trying harder at this).
So I feel like I shouldn't buy something when it'll set a mortgage back another year or something and I do still have a car that is technically working! Bah!0 -
Morning all..
It's taking a lot of effort to keep my eyes open this morning. My own fault.. must have an early night tonight
<random> Wow, there's a "Chief Test Pilot" on the news... imagine the cost of his life insurance!  </random>
Hope everyone had a good night (*hands matchsticks to Bruno*) and has a nice day. The worker must get dressed now.. :hello: xx
ETA: Forgot to say yesterday, the doc did agree to remove two meds from Rhys' list so we're down to three :j0 -

Hello,
Thought I would graduate to the parent thread as my baby is a week old today! Sophie was born on the 13th April via c-section, we only got out of hospital on Sunday as I wasn't very well after she was born.

Hi Jolene
Welcome! Feeling a bit recovered now? Is everything ok with Sophie? Is she your first? How's sleeping/nappies/OH/feeding?

Yes but that one's a twin and the other one had the baby mullet and then appeared with it all neatly cut. And that baby mullet is clearly a styled mullet - I'm ok with baby mullets that are grown that way (although they do make me chortle) but actually cutting one in?!Hello,

Hello! How are you doing now? How's Sophie doing? What weight was she?
Poor husband couldn't sleep at all from excitement last night. And Molly managed to infiltrate ricecake crumbs into the bed and I have a little bruise from lying on one all night - I feel like the princess and the pea :rotfl:
Car talk... we don't have one. We live in the middle of a city and don't need one, but we'll need at least one if we move. And I'm considering buying a Vespa here because they are relatively cheap here and super desirable and expensive where we'd be moving to... I don't know how to ride one but sure how hard can it be
Today I'm going to try and cobble together a talk for a local conference taking place in a couple of weeks. I made an appointment with the counsellor for tomorrow as well. I'm feeling a bit of trepidation though, weird considering my job

Actually I got her weighed 2 weeks ago and she had dropped to 15lb 15oz but that was the week after her teeth came in and she had diarrhoea for 2 days. Didn't go last week as hubby bumped her head twice so was covering up (that's a joke btw, I was just too busy (although he did bang her head))!. Will try and go this Wed.
Speak to you in the morning. Have a think about where is best to park/meet and what time suits then. Night. xElijah didn't reach 16.5lbs til 9 months if I remember correctly! So you're doing fine
You misunderstand my comment about the weight. When I held Holly last Saturday there felt no difference in size/weight to Kieren. He was 18lbs fully clothed yesterday.
Fitz, I think I'll park at the Asda side cos I want to go there on my way out and that way I can put the pram away and get a trolley without too much hassle!!
Do you know the way to that carpark or do you want me to walk over to Matalan (not TKMaxxlol) to get you?
What about 12noon, that suit??0 -
SM, I don't think you really stuck your foot in it - I think you just spurred a conversation where people then were talking about other examples that aren't necessarily you. I understand what you were trying to say about "dreaming" for something better. There is a point that people get to their job level by lots of hard work, yes, but there's also a heavy element of luck.
For instance, I have 2 degrees and the debts to prove it, but I also know that I'm only in my current job (salaried, full-time & permanent) through sheer providence/fortune/God...I may have gotten here eventually through other routes, but I also know I got lucky (basically, while I was temping after uni, I got a good assignment with a gov't department that turned into 9 months of solid work, thereby giving me really good stuff to put on my CV and references to boot - which then I know directly propelled my into my current job for another gov't agency). I seriously doubt I would've gotten an interview for my job without that previous experience that I only got through chance. If that makes sense...
Also, I think of things in the USA and how though I pay a lot more taxes here, I don't feel like it because I get quite a lot back for them.
And finally, a small rant about our perceptions of salaries and location. London weighting is a rubbish concept that doesn't work. The "weight" on my salary is nowhere near the extra cost it is to live here...for instance, I might make a couple thousand more per year, but just for rent alone I pay practically double what I could pay for a similar place in, say, Sheffield. You could argue this is "choice", but it's soooo hard to get out because you have to save up money to move plus be able to find a job with the right timing, something which we dream about but know we may not be able to do for another year or several.
Sorry, that last little rant was off-topic but I wanted a moan
.
In other news, we had pretty good sleep here last night, so :T!
SS, glad to hear about the counsellor appt. Good luck for tomorrow.
