Yep, he can't work without it, drives round far too much to use ours! So we pay 40% extra tax on that 10k. As we were quite new to that tax band we were a bit slow to work it all out but this time I'm more than aware and can half that by choosing a different car.

The easiest option is to pick a cheaper car from the pool cars and let the employer pay you (the difference) from your allocation of vehicel "cost" and the cheaper model.

Shurrup you. It shouldn't be taxed because people on DLA like my big fat smelly step gran get a free car, free insurance, free pies, and still charge Karen £10 to take her Asda

Anyways, you might of just wanted a £500 banger but maybe you had to have a snazzy car to promote how awesome your company is. You couldn't have someone turning up in a sooped up vauxhall nova when they are trying to sell you life saving medical equipment and what not. Could you? No you'd think they were skimping on their MRI equipment and would worry your patients would end up with rat tumours coming out their eyes.

Tara, my Uncle does an awful lot of driving for his job and he bought his own car, had it converted to oil and uses his car allowance to run both his and my Aunt's car!

And Mfd, My Aunt has always had convertables... Currently a Saab, previously a renault (she shortened it considerably with the back of a lorry...) and always a Mazda 2 seater for when the children are in school

I paid an extra £700 in tax this year for having a staff mortgage !! In all fairness I saves slightly more than that this year because the rate is so low, but as soon as the rate goes up, I will be coming off it again as it isnt worth it !!

I neeeeeeeed to go car browsing/shopping.. I just can't build up the courage! I'm still driving my first car and that purchase was a silly mistake - not the car itself, just signing the credit agreement (pre-MSE days, clearly!) and then faffing with a lower rate loan and getting myself out of a pickle Am a bit scared to go trying to do a deal on another one... Feels like I should be more savvy now but I'm not brave enough Might have to call my little sister to do it for me! :whistle:
